Cambridge United v Bolton Wanderers

The relentless Tuesday/Saturday start to the season continues with a trip for Bolton to the abbey stadium. A bit of history between the clubs which only started in 1980. Promotion rivals in 1990/91 where John Becks side won the league, while Bolton finished 4th and lost the play off final to Tranmere. Memories of a difficult journey with traffic and missing the first 30 minutes to see Dion Dublin and John Becks long ball tactics bully Bolton to a 2-1 defeat. Also promotion rivals last season where both sides managed to get promoted. Unfortunately only ifollow memories. Billy crellin threw one into his own net in the away fixture to spark the controversy of evatts post match man up quote. A late equaliser by sarcevic salvaged a 1-1 draw. The return at the unibol saw probably the best Bolton performance of the season. A 2-1 win with goals from Doyle and sarcevic. Team news. A full round up. Out long term Edwards, Amaechi, Bakayoko. Aimson could be fit to start on the bench on Tuesday v port vale. Kachunga isn't fit to start so on the bench today. Williams and isgrove are fit to start after missing Tuesday at Wigan. A return to Saturdays side which beat Oxford 2-1 is likely. Hopefully the whites pick up their 3rd league win on the trot or at least stay unbeaten. The focus will then shift to transfer deadline day. Can evatt shift comley and Crawford? Can evatt get the players in he needs? Going to be a busy few days.

We'll have to have a word with SWIE for not handing out 5 stars before he swans off.
I've done mine and only just going off to do some work.
Thanks Benny

I'm usually the first to post 5 stars but yesterday I neglected to post them but not intentionally.

I hope that Benny knows that I appreciate his efforts. he always does a sterling job.

I have rectified that now.

Now to the game.

Perhaps we should stick to the tried and tested centre back pairing, Santos seems to shine when Baps is coaching him. The pairing was working but I appreciate that COVID 19 played a crucial part in fitness levels. However, they should be up to speed now.

I would prefer to let those two carry on and see what transpires. It can always be changed as we have options.

We all know that we need a decent striker and hopefully, IE will sort that within the next couple of days. If not, I fear that we will struggle until the sick room is cleared and we can play Baka.

Some players are struggling with the final ball. They are professionals and should be able to pass a ball to a teammate. Set pieces could also benefit from better deliveries.

My last point is why on earth are we slow starters? We need to start as we mean to play for 90 minutes. Players who give their all will tire but that is why we have substitues.

I was thinking last night that not all problems can be solved in one window. Has to be a progression. Some players probably not quite good enough to step up a level but here because they did well last season and can still do a job. Been good recruitment overall but the January window and next summer we will hopefully get better. Maybe talk of promotion is premature (story of my life). Learn to walk before we can run. If and when we do go up it needs to be to stay there and not come back down. A season competing in the top half and a trip to Wembley in the efl trophy would be a good season. Hey may even get past the first round of the fa cup too. Any thoughts on Tuesday? A dual deadline day and match thread? I will be at the unibol having claimed my free ticket.

Lump Tues into one thread, we can start early then comment before during and after the match on any transfers. With a bit of luck the bald one at the BEN will try the same resulting in him exploding.

Yesterday the one thing that stuck with me was the crossing it was just like corners and free kicks, hit and hope either failing to clear the first man or going way to long. Shouldn't you always be looking to hit one of your shirts preferably after looking up first to see where they are.

Good to see that you got your free ticket. I hope that we win and that you come away happy.

Your post makes a lot of sense but despite that I want promotion. (not that we will get it) I'm hoping for a great up and coming young striker in the mould of Daniel Sturridge being signed before the window ends. The lad from United might fit the bill if we can get him.

That could be a game-changer but we would need to address the above points.

Treat Tues as a free one anyway a chance to juggle a couple of things, try some ideas out.
It is early days in L1 everybody is learning we'll take a bit of time to settle.
Unfortunately the bald one at the BEN is incapable of learning he won't be around for long at this rate judging by the last 2 para's of this

Lee's groin strain is the only news to start the day with.
No gossip, no sightings of players at the Unibol having a wander around with a view to a move.
There's no players at the bus stop or Horwich Parkway with bags in hand leaving for pastures new.
Plan B for tomorrow is movies, ice cream and sweets it's looking like a good alternative to Sky Sports News until we kick off.

Iles isn't going to endear himself with Sharon if he keeps that up.

However, I do hope that FV is able to sort out the immediate debts as we don't want to be in trouble with the EFL.

Whatever happens, we are still in an infinitely better place than we were before they took over.

Another game in silly cup competition tomorrow but with our result on Saturday, we need to win this one just to settle things down.

That bald bloke at the BEN is just like the kid who used to live next door to me in Bolton, he was always poking a wasp nest with a stick then crying to his mummy when he got stung.
