Central midfield

We’ve gone another summer without properly addressing this key position, and it’s been a hindrance for us since Sir Alex was around.

Whilst I’m over the moon with the return of Cristy, why couldn’t we have found the cash we are spending on him on a top notch CM which we have desperately craved for years?

I’m really hoping Cristy’s signing will mask the deficiencies we lack in that area of the field, but I’m not too sure. I don’t even know what our front four is going to look like now too.

I don’t understand what your first point is? We struggle to get rid of a lot of our squad players because we’ve been too eager to give them decent wages that smaller clubs are unwilling to match. It isn’t just Lingard’s fee, it’s also his wage which is reported to be very high.

You are saying they are on good wages which is possibly scaring off prospective buyers. They are not.

That is my first point.

This isn’t hard to understand. Lingard is not going to be offered a wage by West Ham anywhere near what he gets for us.

Where Ole is failing here is by giving him hope he has a future with us. He doesn’t and even less so now.

We need to be ruthless with these players by telling them if they want game time they need to move on.

Most will and will take a substantial wage cut to do so.

Pereira at what, 25, has already made enough money to comfortably be set up for life. So has James in just two years.

And yet they’re still at our club or only loaned out. Lingards contract finished in a year so he is in no rush to move now for significantly less wages.

Yes they have made a lot of money but that doesn’t mean they’re gonna move so quickly just get get football. Pereira is still getting football to prove himself, it’s just unfortunate he’s not that good while James is still involved at United.

….

Because they are crap and no one wants them.

Lingard is the only one who would peak interest from other clubs.

I wouldn’t have wanted Pereira in the last pub team I played for.

Pereira has been on 2 loans the past 2 season which would suggest teams are interested. But like you say they’re not interested because he’s not very good and because he is on relatively high wages.

*Not interested in purchasing. I think his quite successful loan at Granada shows that he can perform at a lower level but not for the price it would cost to get him.

Jones as well, I know he’s injured half the time but he will still have a level who’d be interested but his wages will always be a turn off.

The wages won’t be a problem if he wants to play football. Clubs are not going to buy him if we keep loaning him out, though.

Pereira is definitely one of those Ed and Judge screwed up on. He should have been one of those youngsters we release when their contract is up.

Jones wouldn’t be able to insist to anyone idiotic enough to want him on a wage parity with what he earns now. He just wouldn’t.

Let us say someone from lower in the prem was interested. They would offer him a contract suitable to them. He would either take it or not play football.

And he’s still at the club happy to do nothing. Footballers have relatively short careers so even if they’re earning huge wages relative to normal people they will still want to earn as much as they can.

Let’s say Jones is on 250K a week. That is 12!million a year. I am sure Jones would rather be fit and playing than sitting around in the treatment room.

And if he gets fit and a move is possible he won’t mind being on 1 or 2 million a year. He is already set up for life.
