VAR

It was used beautifully and effectively at the Euros.

Why , oh why , can't we ever figure it out here in this country?

That bald fraud who calls himself a ref literally made a complete joke of VAR today.

What's the point of going over to look at the monitor if you are only going to look at a still photo for a split second

Anthony Taylor had already made his mind up that it was a penalty and red card and didn't want to look at the whole replay to possibly change his mind.

We honestly have stupid refs in the Premier League it's not even funny.

City get a pen for that. So do Liverpool. But we wouldn’t.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Total bollox as usual, we had a perfectly good goal chalked off against Norwich because of a terrible VAR decision.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And yet your game changing goal today for 2-0 is given, after a VAR check, despite a clear foul.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The foul on a City player a second earlier probably cancelled that out.

The only question is whether it was a pen or not. Once you decide it's a pen (which was the correct decision) then by definition it also has to be a red card. The law's a joke but the penalty and red card are correct under said laws. So the ref was right to give it

Why wasn’t the penalty for Saka given?? Honestly I’m sick to death of City getting all the help from VAR whilst we get screwed by it. You gained about 15 points last year from farcical decisions.

VAR was perfectly fine today. Ref missed a handball that should have been a penalty and red card. VAR alerted him and he had a double check and then gave the penalty and red card.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep. It is harsh on the defending player to see red there, but he's denied a goal with his arm and once the ref gives a penalty (as he has to) then he also has to send James off. The red card is very harsh for the crime, as it wasn't intentional, but it has to be given under the current rules

its seems strange that only liverpool fans are convinced that it was a penalty!!! Leg to arm is not a penalty he had no time to get his arms behind his back as the shot was from a yrd away

I'm a United fan and I'm convinced it was the correct decision. I don't care what part of his body it deflected off, it came off his arm which was away from his body and kept the ball out of the net. There isn't a ref in the country, at any level, who will consider that an incorrect decision.

because the FA and PL are arrogant feckers who want to do things their way, even though their way sucks.

I think the red card actually reduced our chance of winning. Chelsea are incredibly difficult to break down when they put their mind to it and barring the first ten mins after the break we looked less likely to score than when they had eleven men.

I’m genuinely baffled that anyone is moaning about that decision. I can only think it’s because it’s Liverpool, as every decision related to that decision was made with an exact interpretation of the rules.

I guess now that VAR is gradually ironing out it’s faults, some people need to make up controversy just to have something to talk about.

I would disagree about it being harsh to be honest because the red card is the only actual punishment that has been given. James effectively stopped a 100% goal. Even if it is seen (it wouldn't have been without VAR) then the "punishment" is an 83% chance at a goal from the penalty. So if the penalty is missed then the defending team has directly benefitted from the act of cheating and even if the penalty is scored it just means that the situation is exactly how it would have been had the cheating not occurred so there hasn't been any actual punishment as such.

The red card is a disincentive. Otherwise you might as well handle any shot on the line. You would stop a certain goal and at worst they would score it from the penalty, and at best it is missed and you have benefited. The red card means that if the ball is going in, it is probably better for your team in most cases if you let it go in rather than handle it to stop it.
