I don't get the Maguire hate. He isn't Ferdinand and has a few off games like last week where he looks subpar. Buy 90% times he is a solid 7/10 player. We would be poor without Maguire in our line up. Lindelof on the other hand is a championship level player.

Maguire has four relegations on his CV. He shouldn’t captain Ronaldo and Varane.

By the way, Chiellini was captain of Juventus and Ramos captain of Real Madrid. Both clubs chose not to make him captain (in a context where he was younger and more mobile and there was no question of rationing the number of games he played).

Both of them are also leaders and winners. Maguire on the other hand has won nothing. It'll probably be weird for him captaining Ronaldo, looking up to him himself and knowing his superior status.

I would live with the idea that Maguire has won nothing. The problem is that he has four relegations on his CV. He can’t captain Ronaldo and Varane.

As said being captain has very little to do with what actually happens on the pitch bar talking to the ref. It's not even symbolic really, more administrative.

It's not cricket. You'd be mad to take the arm band off Maguire and give it to Ronaldo, it's going to be hard enough to keep that dressing room happy as it is, in fact I think Utd have possibly made a mistake. Ole pretty good at that side of things though I reckon.

Ole wouldn't strip Maguire of the armband for a player who will only be at the club for 2 years (providing his legs hold out). Ronaldo can do plenty of good without being the skipper. The players are likely to be a bit envious of him, so Ole will be careful not to throw his players under the bus for short-term satisfaction.

To win trophies you need multiple captains and that’s what we have

So trophy count is an essential requirement of good captaincy?

My mate calls his wife a trophy wife. She has big ears and previous winners names tattoo’d on her back.
