I didn’t know Kante was available is that why City steered Ronaldo towards United?

Must admit it crossed my mind that City have had Utds pants down on this deal a bit.

I'm not particularly partisan but I have a feeling that this transfer will go a bit south and that City forced Utds hand maybe on purpose. For example, given it's on a two year contract could that clear the way for City getting Haaland? I also think it could cause issues in Utds dressing room.

Just a feeling, nothing more.

Wrong.

He made it clear that City wanted him on a free and refused to pay even the amount Juve wanted, which was just sufficient for them to show that they hadn’t lost money on his tenure at the club.

It would do you good to actually research before shooting your mouth off.

I think they’ve done it too, reckon this is to pave the way to get haaland. That said it’s not exactly a pants pulling given it’s Ronaldo who’s still world class we’ve signed, but it did strike me that they might be playing a game.

Doubt it was a game as such. More that he wanted out of Juventus and his agent tried to get us to get involved. We weren’t overly keen and definitely not if there was a fee or he wanted similar wages to what he had at Juve. As soon as it went public that they were talking to us, United had to get involved and were willing to pay Juve what they wanted to make the deal happen.


I don’t think we were ever that bothered by it, I wouldn’t say it was something we overly tried to make happen though.

I would have liked to have seen Ronaldo at City. Two years - the duration of Pep’s current contract (I do think Pep will extent his stay) - it would be interesting to see those two work together. An added caveat being Pep has done it with Messi, can he do it with Ronaldo.

But I don’t think City were as interested in Ronaldo as much as the media made out. The media did play a hand in United signing Ronaldo. It did come out of the blue (no pun intended), and happened so quickly. Either the media were blindsided (probable) or United went all out to make it happen (again probable).

Yep I’d have liked to have seen it for curiosity purposes. It’s not a signing that rationally would have made much sense for us though, both in terms of how we play and also given our recruitment in the past few years.

Not worth breaking our pay structure for.
