Cavani

Barcelona are in negotiations for him apparently.

Would be disappointed if he leaves but with Ronaldo coming in we may be over stacked in that area now.

He’ll be fondly remembered if he does go today

Makes sense now we have Ronaldo. I get that Cavani plays the CF role differently but Ronaldo is still a vastly superior forward and importantly has a far better fitness record. Hard on Cavani and as I've said I'm still in 2 minds whether Ronaldo will work in the end but as soon as the deal was done it's hard to see how Cavani fits.

Vastly superior? Scored fewer non-penalty goals per 90 minutes last season than Cavani and half as many assists per 90 (and playing in Serie A rather than the Prem; while contributing basically nothing to the pressing). Against that you can legitimately point out that Cavani didn't play as much and may not have sustained his stats if he played week-in, week-out, and so far Ronaldo does indeed have a better fitness record.

But it's a difficult one to compare those stats like you say. Cavani is a very good striker and like Ronaldo isn't the player he once was but I still think Ronaldo is a vastly superior player. The consistency of the man is incredible and while I get he's a bit of a weirdo and not the most likeable he is still doing a remarkable job.

And as we know this isn't just about what he does on the pitch, off it Ronaldo is the ultimate athlete and professional (footballing wise) which Cavani also seems very good at but again not to the same level. I genuinly think many of the squad were buzzing from the news which I doubt happened when Cavani arrived however much players probably respect him. Then there's the marketing aspect which we can't ignore.

Struggled to settle in England. Oh where have I heard this before?

Another one for the list. Send him to Barca and stop wasting time signing these South Americans.

I know you're really attached to your theory (which relies on the same logical fallacy as racism) but it really is a stretch to call Cavani's stint at United anything but a great success. Struggling to feel settled in Manchester on lockdown is hardly a damning indictment, but he carried himself professionally and contributed fantastically on the pitch throughout.

Contrast that with last summer's other key signing DVDB. (By the way, the last six Dutchmen to represent United are Donny, Chong, Fosu-Mensah, Depay, Blind and Buttner, and the four before them were RVP, VDS, RVN and Stam... It's almost as if nationality doesn't correlate with suitability.)

Hopefully he does not go but if he does, I hope we extract around 10m quids for him.

Overstacked? We've got Ronaldo, Cavani and Greenwood, that's depth that's not overstacked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

For three attacking positions we have:

Ronaldo
Cavani
Greenwood
Rashford
Sancho
Martial
(Pogba on left)

With two in and presumably only James out, we have a lot more strength and depth than last season. Arguably not overstacked, but a bit of a challenge to keep that many highly paid players happy.

Especially when your best performing player is the 19 year old.

Not really. Welcome to come to the UK for me. Just sick of us getting messed about constantly as it hardly ever works out for us. Our track record with them is beyond shocking.
