Transfer window /10

Cristiano, Varane, Sancho & Heaton in for £118m

Dan James out for £25m

Did we need a CM more than Ronaldo? Yes, but football is about romance and I’d rather see Ronaldo back at Old Trafford scoring goals for a couple of years over any other signing.

I’m giving the window an 8/10.

8/10 … two key positions sorted, a potential RvP like signing in terms of a title challenge… only issue is CM, though hopefully we get to see beekers fulfil his destiny

If anyone says anything but 10 they are mental. Not in my wildest dreams did I think we could get those three players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I bet you my 6 will be closer to how it will end up than your 10. Especially as the one major thing we needed was not addressed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We will see. Draws cost us last yr and we now have the most deadly finisher in world footy to score more goals for us and Varane to hopefully secure more clean sheets. And Sancho too can provide another option for assists. No more relying on Dan James. We have quality on the bench too now.

The ever growing talent that is Greenwood too can't be underplayed. Not a new signing of course but he's becoming a genuine world beater.

Positive we are in for a good season. We have so much attacking depth it's scary.

…..

But not the midfield depth which we need to supply bullets.

You have to be happy with it on paper as there is a lot of money spent there and stupid figures when you look at wages.

But I agree that CDM should have been your priority really. If Pogba is off form (not exactly a big if) and Bruno gets injured then your midfield looks completely useless.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Liverpool have shown you don't really need a talented midfield. Instead of Moyes ball crosses from our full backs all game though, we can just ping through balls to our attack and go from there.

I'm joking obvs, ish.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Talented midfield isn't the right word. Utilitarian I'll give you. We don't rely on them for creativity (out lb and rb put yours to shame offensively let's not forget) but they retain and gain possession as well as any in world football. They work for our system - you can't say that about United. In fact I'd go so far as to say you pretty much rely on some magic from Pogba and Fernandes the former of which doesn't happen often enough.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah I was just being cheeky.

When you build a team with risk taking, flair players, you're going to get that, they also give us some incredible goals and pieces of play. I'm sure our own respective biases will help lean us in what we'll say we prefer but both ways work pretty well.

Ye there are a number of ways to skin a cat. But your midfield does very little apart from Fernandes. Ours does so much work and frees up TAA and Robertson to do their thing (assist levels only De bruyne was competing with). I would be very worried about you if you got a couple more midfielders in there.

Now who is being cheeky

You may be right, I'm less worried about it than you are, so I guess it's a good job we each support the teams we do rather than the other way around.

Can't resist that tribalism aye!

Saw this morning on Sky Sports site (although source was the Mirror) that Van De Beek was close to a loan move to Everton, but the deal was blocked personally by OGS.

Bit random if true.

Right thing to do if true. Why would we strengthen Everton, especially they have the Spanish waiter in charge? They paid £30M for Iwobi, we should expect them to pay similar price, not a cheap loan.
