Donny's agent

Donny van Beek is banking on Manchester United honouring a "clear agreement" to give him more playing time this season after the club refused to entertain a loan move, the Netherlands midfielder's agent is quoted in the Daily Telegraph.

"There was a lot of interest from Italy, Germany, England, so that looked good. But you need co-operation of the club, and it looked like they would, but ultimately they didn't," Guido Albers told Dutch football outlet Voetbal International.

"Disappointed, but also assuring for him, so that he will get his chance, and will get his minutes, but this will become clear in due time.

"He's been promised that before, but we came to a clear agreement about this with the club, so we have all faith that it will happen now."

Looks like Donny will be getting some minutes, otherwise we will have an unhappy player on our hands very soon.

Oles handling of Donny is truly baffling given the otherwise positive vibes surrounding the club.

If he is, so be it.

But not Fred, obviously.

The issue i have with beekers playing deep is that he seems scared to receive the ball in those positions in case he messes up. It's a conundrum where he needs game time to build confidence, but we can't play someone who lacks confidence is such a key role.

He's just gonna have to do what most other squad players do and take his chances when they come.

Exactly. He wouldn’t inspire confidence as a ball-playing midfielder because he’s lacking confidence himself. And I don’t know how good his tackling or defensive awareness is to make up for that.

I’d be all for trying him in a two against a weaker side, like N2 says. I just wouldn’t get my hopes up and don’t really blame Ole for not doing that yet. I do agree that the treatment of Donny is slightly baffling though.

I think Oles hand will be forced by McTominays injury, i just hope Donny gets a few games to show what he is capable of.

More likely he will play Pogba with Fred id say.

Well if he does then Donny will never be given the chance to make it.

Maybe if Bruno gets injured. Or later in the season when the players higher up the pecking order have got a few more games under their belts.

The idea that vdb offers an improvement to Fred in terms of progressive and creative passing from deep doesn't really seemed to be based on anything other than him being a number 10, and people assuming that he therefore would be better at that stuff.

When he's played there for both United and Ajax he's been noticeably conservative with his passing.

I wouldn’t say that, there’s been nothing noticeable about him when he’s been on the pitch.

I do wonder what was said when Ole pitched the club to him before he signed. Where he would play must've been part of the convo. Just seems like that chat never took place seeing him struggling for minutes.
