If ever a time for a back 5!

Our next league game is Man City. Easy 3 points I hear most of you saying, but I disagree.

Our makeshift defence has looked all over the place in our opening games and we’ve mainly been saved by taking the game to the opposition and not relying on them solely.

Well, let’s all be honest and joking aside, Man City will tear our defence apart if we try that against them. If Evans and Vesteguaard aren’t fit, I think we have no choice but to baton down the hatches, play Castagne, Soyuncu and Amartey in a back 3 and hope to escape with minimal damage.

Pray Man City have an off day and try to bore them in to a 0-0.

Too negative? Ok, let’s start Vardy, Barnes and Daka and at least try to make them panic on the break. But to try and play 4-2-3-1 just would be suicide for me.

Anyone more confident? Lookman to score the winner from the bench?

Play a back five but with Ndidi in the back 3. Soumare or Dewsbury-Hall in as both of them will be better playing through the press than Ndidi. 2 of Vardy, Barnes or Daka playing up front as wide strikers.

Decent suggestion Cupcake. As good as he is, Ndidi isn’t great at pleating against a high press. When that happens Tielemans gets nullified too as Ndidi isn’t winning the ball back in areas to get Tielemans causing problems.

Reported that both Evans and Vestergaard are back in training so we may see one of them. Not sure we’ll see both. The big question is whether Maddison keeps his place. I’d be inclined to go with Dewsbury-Hall, who has offered more in the brief time he’s been on the pitch.

Maddison is a difficult conundrum. He needs to find some form, but he can only really do that if he’s playing.

Do we take him out and make him do that on the training pitch or give him the game time to do it.

Right now our midfield isn’t performing which isn’t just down to Maddison, but he’s part of that. Ndidi is being prevented from breaking up play and getting us on the front foot which is in turn impacting Tielemans and Maddison.

Whilst this is the case there’s an argument for bringing Soumare in as part of a 4-3-3 at the expense of Maddison. Don’t think Rodgers would do that though, and as much as I like Dewsbury-Hall, I’m not sure he could be that number 10 as effectively as Maddison.

totally agree with you mersey..Maddison is wearing out my patience.reminds me of Sturridge at Liverpool who would not put in the effort if he was in a bit of pain.I would like to see Brendan put him on as a sub tommorrow and if he just srolls about the pitch which we have seen the end of last season and this to sub him It might change his attitude.

Apparently back 5 not needed while the MOTM for the last two games in defence is dropped, likely to be 5 against us.

Attacking line up. Let’s see what happens!

Time for Maddison to step up.
