Obviously very happy with the win

and delighted that Ronaldo is back and got off to a banger but

Is it just me or are we and have we been for a long time, way too easy to play through? It seems no matter who we play and how we play, just one or two passes and the opposition team go from their own box to ours.

Is this a coaching thing or a personnel thing?

Steve Bruce should be embarrassed of himself for being so negative with a midfield of Pogba and Matic. Pogba is actually really slow without the ball. We just need a top CM
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It would have been much worse for Newcastle had they had been more adventurous.

Bruce’s tactics looked pretty good after an hour. Teams that have limitations can get ripped apart by us if they don’t defend with caution. See Leeds as a good example.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair take Vc. But when they attacked they were very dangerous, and as you know goals change games. If they attacked Matic and pogba more, I think they would’ve scored more themselves.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They were very dangerous and Saint Maximin will give any defence a tough game.

We're too light in midfield. Other teams pack this area, so when they lose the ball there's a lot of players to get through.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
correct. how many other teams in the pl play 2 in midfield? and where do we think our wide players today rank in terms of defensive work vs other pl wide players?

and why are individual errors - fred vs wolves, shaw and maguire today - blamed on this amorphous concept of "the midfield"?

anyway, hafi is right, we haven't been shipping chances left, right, and centre - and today's performance was more dominant than the one vs leeds for instance - so i'm really not sure why this "we're fragile and got lucky" narrative has come from.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know, maybe because a weak midfield puts more pressure on players in certain areas.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
N2 just upset we've won, again. He lives for a slip up. So he can join the rest of the inbr3d gang which includes that cinci chap. Bless them.

4 - 1 Ronaldo on fire and united top of the league.. Happy Saturday 😁

The unbridled joy of watching Ronnie bring back a touch of nostalgia and attacking verve was something else. Old Trafford was abuzz with anticipation and a cacophony of noise. Our attacking play at times was crisp and devastating. But all that was punctuated by our usual failings in midfield and at times in defence.

Playing Pogba deep is a double edged sword. Fabulous at times on the ball but on the flip side we were left vulnerable to counters. A better side with more efficient attackers would have made more of the opportunities Newcastle spurned.

The lack of protection offered to our defence was evident when Maguire was left one v one several times as was Varane. Neither had a comfortable afternoon. Hopefully it's nothing more than an off day.

Brilliant result and some fabulous goals but let's not get too carried away.

Highlight for me was Lingard's goal. The cherry, on the icing, on the cake!

The cons weren't all about our defence but players in defensive positions being careless. Bruno was caught a number of times on the ball, nearly leading to a goal. It's those careless phases that drives fans bonkers. We never seem to learn.

Bizarre day this?!? Good result and Ronaldo comes back and scores two and half the United board are kicking off to all and sundry.

No one is kicking off, just frustrated over usual failings in midfield not being addressed, another window, another missed opportunity. We must be the only side in the top 6 with a poor selection of CM / CDM talent.
