Lingard v Sancho

We all agree that Sancho is the overall better footballer.

But there's no question in my mind that Jesse Lingard is the better goal scorer.

That finish today was outstanding.

The good thing is that he has age on his side. Compared to when we were initially linked to him, we also have so many attacking talent now, so we can afford to have him slowly get better in a way we couldn't previously.

The fact that fans of rival clubs can't wait to make the case for Lingard says quite a lot tbf
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What does it say exactly? I don’t watch German football so can’t really comment but lingard is the better player atm. I’m not sure what sancho does well, much like Hudson odoi. I haven’t seen sancho enough though
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Lingard is the better player atm" is presumably based on things he's done in the past, over a much longer period of the time. That isn't how being a better player atm works though, is it?

Regardless, if a rival fan feels the inclination to comment on an article about two United players, they are more likely to big up the inferior player and downplay the abilities of the big money signing. It's just how it works
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No it’s based on the genes I’ve seen recently

Also not sure what people you talk to to have that impression. Very weird

Literally anybody who ever feels the need to comment on a rival fan's board. It's a discussion over two United players. One who cost nothing and is clearly a bit part player. The other big money signing who has had a slowish start. If a rival fan comes on and comments, they're clearly only ever going to say one thing. The fact they feel the need to come on suggests they maybe think another

there is a tendency I have noticed in the utd JA606 community in the last few years to attack and discredit anyone saying something they do not agree with rather than debate the topic

a non utd fan clearly has an agenda if he disagrees
and a utd fan is clearly not a real fan if he disagrees

I guess it is a reflection of wider society to only want to listen to people who agree with your opinion on a topic.

Not sure where there was an attack there. I gave my rationale for why a rival fan is less than an objective commenter on comparison articles between big moment signings and bit part players, like this one. And I stand by that.

Though I do agree that there is a tendency to be hyper defensive in these situations, as I possibly have been here!

If you've seen my regular comments on this board, you'll know that I'm far from someone who just toes the club line. Though maybe I have been defensive and shown a bit of a seige mentality here.

I was not refering to you specifically with my comment and apologise if it came across that way. I kind of understand the siege mentallity.

When I joined the original 606, the thing I like was hearing the opinions of people who were not like me or think like me. Their opinion challenged mine and made me go back and reevaluate my opinions sometimes changing them but often given me a deeper understanding on a topic.

No worries man. No, I'm with you there. It is great to have good discussions. Player comparison articles rarely bring them about, as you just get polarised opinions. Generally, articles discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the teams at the top etc can produce very good discussion. I think there's plenty of scope for that this season

Yeah it’s very odd. I go on the Utd board from time to time and don’t think I’ve ever had the idea or been accused of doing what this Steve guy is saying. Sounds ridiculous. We’re just debating footballers. Maybe Steve has seen every sancho game in Germany and is a big fan. But from my viewing he hasn’t proved anything to me yet.
