Jimmy Greaves RIP

One of the finest has sadly passed away.
Condolences to his family and friends
A real loss to the football world.

Jimmy Greaves was a hero of mine when I was a lad. He was a great goal scorer and it annoyed me he wasn't in the 1966 final team. He was better than Hunt but Alf liked workers more than flair players, Grealish wouldn't have got near a Ramsey team.

He was good on Saint and Greavsie...RIP the Great Jimmy Greaves.

Yes a sad day for English football, phenomenal strike rate, could have been far and away England’s top striker if he’d had more games or played in this era

Didn’t Hurst take his spot when he got injured and never lost it back to him? To be fair to Sir Alf a final hat trick and the trophy justified the selection but fair point, he was the more natural striker. If his career had gone on instead of the demon drink getting hold he’d be up there with the Mullers of this world. As a Londoner it must have been crushing not to be part of the winning the trophy on his home turf. Brilliant as part of saint and greavesie

Yes, must admit I remember him more for his Saint and Greavesie tv show. Also strangely because of his abstinence from alcohol - after being a (reputed) alcoholic. RIP Greavesie....

When we got promoted to division 1 in 1969. after a truly wonderful and surprising season. one of my thrills was seeing wonderful players live in action (not much footy on the tele then). Law, Best, Bobby Charlton and Jimmy Greaves and many more. And not only that we beat Manchester United 2-0, but we thrashed Spurs 5-0 in front of a record crowd at the BBG, with Jimmy Greaves playing on our muddy pitch.

Wonderful wonderful days to watch Derby County, so sad now Jimmy has died and our club is not far behind.

Was told on good authority, that Greaves was desperate to join Cloughie at Derby after leaving Spurs. He was only 30 at the time
