Positives

I know that it’s really hard to find any positives after being soundly beaten by one of our fiercest rivals at our own ground, but there are a few I think, such as:

• Romero and Dier looked good together. I don’t’ think the three goals conceded were down to them.

• The starting line up was good and we played very well in the first half. Players like Romero, Lo Celso, Ndombele and Son were lacking in match fitness and that will partly explain the tail off in the second half.

• Royal hasn’t pulled up any trees yet, but he has already shown that he’s an upgrade on Aurier and Doherty and possibly Tanganga. Whilst Royal isn’t necessarily lacking match fitness like others in the team, he’s had a bit of a baptism of fire since he joined and hopefully he’ll settle down and will start to show his quality.

• With the likes of Tanganga, Moura and Bergwijn to add to the matchday squad, Nuno should be able to re-jig a couple of positions (by excluding Alli) and have a better bench for the next games.

• If you consider (as I do) our main rivals in the PL (THIS SEASON) to be the likes of Everton, West Ham, Leicester, then we’re well positioned points wise – having already played Man City and Chelsea within our first 5 games.

• Nuno will have more time to work with most of the squad prior to next weekend’s NLD than he has so far this season. Remember, Kane and Ndombele were “unavailable" for the first few games (Ndombele only beginning to play a part in the last couple of games) and the devastating impact of the international break – both in terms of injuries and isolation – meant the two of yesterday’s starters only trained with the squad on Saturday afternoon.

I know some may say that I’m trying to find excuses for the team/manager and subconsciously maybe I am! But I still think we can’t fully judge Nuno and the team’s progress until we’re about at least 10 games into the PL season.

No positives for me. Baffled as to how Spurs fans are content with getting smashed 3-0 home to your rivals. Regardless of Chelsea’s quality, that is simply unacceptable the way we collapsed once again. The main worry is we cash online muster an ok, but unspectacular 1st half football and still didn’t lay a finger on Chelsea barely. There is no positives from getting smashed 3-0 in our last 2 league games and barely look like scoring all season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm pretty sure I saw a comment from you on the match thread stating how happy you were with the line up! Surely you at least agree that that is a positive and something to build on? Or have you changed your mind because of the inevitable defeat that followed?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I liked the line up, but that doesn’t mean I should be happy getting smashed 3-0 at home. That’s probably our best line up bar Lucas Moura for Ali and we couldn’t even lay a touch on Chelsea. We were pathetic. We huffed and puffed, but barely looked like scoring and haven’t all season. What I find more baffling is the amount of Spurs fans on here pretty chuffed with getting battered 3-0 but having a “good” half of football. We become so small time and acceptable with mediocrity
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Where are these chuffed fans? Quotes please or just more BS from you?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Jesus Christ mate have you seen your comment on Aces article ? You would have thought we won the game 3-0 yesterday with what you been banging on about this morning. I have never known anyone to dissect a 3-0 loss into such a positive. Ridiculous. We have had this debate many times before after a convincing loss and every time you harp on about the same old positive s**.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

More BS. What i said on Aces thread was far from "being chuffed". I noted a more attacking line up which is good and hope we continue to approach games with this instead of going back to 2 DMs.

The rest of what i said was an assessment of what i saw which was critical of our CM and also the supply to Kane.

You spin a considered assessment as accepting a thumping home defeat. I went to the game, spent a fortune doing so, round trip of 150 miles, got back 2.5 hours after full time. You cannot tell me that I was not totally disappointed in the result. I'm just not going to wet the bed like a child after a defeat by a team who are better than us, when we are just beginning a rebuild. Your miserable world of no joy must be a desperate place to reside.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nothing to do with being miserable and you don’t even f** know me, so let’s not go down the personal route because you will never win that one. Me moaning about Spurs bares no resemblance whatsoever on my personal life. I’m just not a deluded mess, that tries to spin pretty much anything into a positive. I don’t want too hear your positive Bolloks when we have just been smashed 3-0 at home to Chelsea. It doesn’t make you any better as a supporter just because you wax lyrical about every Spurs performance and literally have nothing negative to say.

And my gripe is the fact whenever someone says anything negative be it constructive or even assessing the situation, you enter the discussion like flies to s** moaning about it and trying to put down supporters for being pi** off with Spurs. Some of us are not happy with the club and haven’t been for years. I’m not going to get my happy clappers out after every loss just because you expect me too.

Look we all know losing 3-0 at home is unacceptable.
No one disputes that.

It’s just that some on this forum are fundamentally more intelligent than others, and are able to distinguish between the crushing emotions of frustrations, anger and disappointment, and not behave like a little toddler who doesn’t get what he wants.

Then there is Neanderthal Don.

You only ever spout negative stuff. While i may have some optimism it is at least wrapped around a balanced consideration which includes being critical where justified. Not everything we did vs chelsea was bad, so I do not see that defeat as having no positives. As already stated, i saw little vs Palace that was good, it was wholesale a much much worse performance and one of the worst i have seen in ages and happy to call it out as such.

You and many others deal in extremes all the time. Its either great or total shiiit. I operate in the middle, more reflective, less emotional and certainly less catastrophising.

I been very negative the last few years purely because I’m not happy with how we are run and I’m not happy with our chairman and owners.

Anyway, I’m not going to agree with people on here as I see no positives from last night. We have barely scored in open play all season and what was our strength at the beginning of the season ( our defence ) which I know was false anyway, we have now conceded 8 goals in 3 games. How is anyone supposed to pick positives from that ? Tell me
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don, I think by "positives" posters on here are trying to find reasons why this squad wont be relegation fodder this season.
On the Chelsea match you have to admit it was a game of two halves.
We have some squad and management problems...
Delli Alli is a waste of space, and Nuno has to answer for that.
Kane's heart is obviously not at Tottenham.
Son is not match fit.
The defence is not together, and the new guys need to get into it FAST.
Dier and Sanchez should have been replaced, but I would not trust Paratici/Levy to buy an upgrade.
Ndombele needs more playing time, and taking him off at minute 60 yesterday was IMHO, poor mismanagement. And it showed.....the match went downhill right away.
Lo Celso and Hojbjerg both had bad games....and when the midfield gets over run, Kane gets nothing to do but play in midfield.
The main question seems to be...can Nuno turn this around?
I think the Arsenal game will answer that question.

We’re not gonna be close to relegation Ted, we won our opening 3 - yes it was dull but it is effective against certain sides. You can’t tell me that we need to worry about Norwich, Burnley, Wolves, Southampton, Brentford, Newcastle or Palace over the course of a season.

The negative is we are miles off the pace for top 4, that particular goal is already done for this season. Places 5/6/7 are attainable but they already look like an absolute dog fight to the bitter end.

Can’t blame Nuno, he is not an alchemist. We lost Vinícius, Lamela and Bale and only brought on Gil who is good and clearly has potential to be a top player, but he is a kid. So 3 senior players swapped for a junior player in attacking positions - Levy/Paratici what the furrrck are they actually doing?

Jeez...relegation fodder

Here we go again! If we aint winning then we're going down . Some Spurs fans are beyond help. I cannot take seriously the opinion of anyone who think Spurs are relegation fodder, 5 games in to a new season with a new manager & 9 points. Its a better start than Poch managed but apparently we're going to be relegation fodder

Have a word with yourself

If people would read what I actually wrote they would understand that I do not think that we will be relegation fodder. But the fact that the very mention of the phrase "relegation fodder" upsets people and they rush to denial, show the underlying anxiety existing in this fan base.

Note: the Arsenholes were bottom not long ago, and now......they COULD go above us
