Dry Socket

I had my lower left wisdom tooth out on Friday and I'm shlttlng myself about getting dry socket. Apparently it's incredibly painful. Has anyone had dry socket? How long did it take to develop for you, how bad was it and how long did you have it for?

I had a wisdom tooth out 6 months ago and remember the recovery pretty well, so hopefully my advice helps and it may be very similar to your case.

My extraction took longer than normal- tooth was deep rooted and dentist said the bone was very strong. I was pain free until about two days afterwards when it started to build. Took three days for the pain to peak and it was very uncomfortable for the next 3-4 days after that. Had to take paracetamol/ibuprofen every 2 hours intermittently as it was that bad. The pain I felt was a result of the tooth being very deep rooted and it being a difficult extraction, thereby unavoidable and not due to dry socket. Dry socket is actually quite rare- as long as you weren't eating stupidly the last couple of days it is unlikely you have it. Any pain you have or develop will be likely because it was a difficult extraction as I had.

Also remember the neighbouring tooth being sore to the point that I thought the dentist had taken the wrong one out but again this is common.

The next few days are unlikely to be comfortable but it should subside by the weekend. If you still have pain Monday morning go see your dentist.

Just rinse your mouth out with warm salt water every few hours and the chances of getting it are pretty much impossible

I had 3 wisdom teeth taken out on the same day, I don’t remember any pain after it whatsoever. I was told to be prepared for discomfort but I never had any.

Best place to go for dentistry now is Turkey. Cheaper than the UK.

It may well be before you factor in flying to Turkey, paying for accomodation, and then flying back again. I find it hard to believe that I could do that for less than I paid for extraction 15 minutes from my home.

I want to hear from Paolo Scherzo on the matter, and hear what he thinks it is.

Na, I know a guy who is barred from Turkey for running some iffy tooth whitening racket.

I know 3 lads who all decided to go to Turkey to have veneers fitted. Don’t get me wrong the dentist did a good job but he should have advised on the shade they chose. I picked them Up at the airport and couldn’t stop laughing. All 3 have the brightest teeth you’ve ever seen.
