Porto v Liverpool LIVE!

KO: 2000

LFC: Alisson, Milner, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Jones, Salah, Jota, Mane.

Porto: Costa, Corona, Pepe, Marcano, Zaidu, Oliveira, Uribe, Otávio, Díaz, Taremi, Martínez.

Porto made a stubborn start to their UEFA Champions League (UCL) campaign, securing a 0-0 draw against Atlético Madrid where only 11 shots in total were registered, the lowest of all opening round games. The hosts will look to build upon that result here and transfer the form they’ve shown in their domestic campaign so far (W5, D2), scoring seven goals in their last two league matches.

The Estádio do Dragão will be in an electric mood after seeing the ‘Dragons’ keep a clean sheet in their last three UCL group stage home games. There’ll be no better time to produce a defensive effort of that sort here given that Porto have only shut-out opponents Liverpool once in their six UCL H2H matches, never keeping a home UCL clean sheet against the English giants.

Liverpool are sitting pretty atop their UCL group and are flying high in the Premier League, as their undefeated season marches on (W6, D2 in all competitions). The thrilling 3-3 draw with Brentford last time out showed their defensive vulnerabilities from last season aren’t all resolved, but also saw the ‘Reds’ score three goals for the fifth successive match.

The visitors have enjoyed recent travels around Europe, not losing away in the UCL group stages since September 2019 (W4, D1), with three of those victories coming ‘to nil’. Manager Jürgen Klopp has taken a particular liking to Porto, as against no other team has his side won more UCL games (three) and scored more UCL goals (11) since the German took over.

Players to watch: Porto’s Luis Díaz has directly been involved in 38% of their domestic goals this term (G5, A1), while Sadio Mané’s four goals against Porto is the joint-most any Liverpool player has scored against one opponent in the UCL.

Hot stat: Liverpool have faced Porto on more occasions without ever losing (W5, D3) than any other side across all European competitions.

Feel proper sorry for Tsimikas. Klopp takes precaution with the players for Sunday except the machine that is Robbo haha

Find it really bizarre that some seem to think Tsimikas is hard done by. He knew he’d be back up when he signed, it’s his job to play well when he starts. Robbo hasn’t been at his best but you don’t just drop someone who’s been world class for three seasons, you give them a chance to play themselves back into form.

I meant tonight at 3-0 when subs were being brought on. I didn’t mention anything about dropping Robbo at all. He was boss tonight
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ah right sorry. There have been several who have been saying it though….

I dont mind admitting I was keen to see tsmikas start tonight. As I said last week hes been superb every game hes played with robbo looking leggy and out of form. Its not about bombing robbo out all together because of a patch of bad form but if you have a back up that is stepping up to the plate and showing hes at the top of his game I dont think theres anything wrong with suggesting he might get a start.

Saying all that robbo was 1st class tonight. Which shows why klopp picks the team and I sit in my living room on ja606.

Yeah, though I just think if a player is over a certain level then they’ll play themselves back into form. And I’m not sure you can do that on the training ground. I reckon there will still be plenty of games for Tsmikas throughout the season, Klopp won’t want to burn Robbo out again.

Robertson had an injury. He needed to play tonight to be ready for City. He had one poor game this season so far. No idea where this poor form stuff came from.

decent game but not brilliant

thier keeper handed us 3 goals. we had to make the positions but they were handed to us. porto looked young and not really up to the level and our lads did thier jobs.

the milan game was more impressive in terms of effort but this won was easier control.

The issue is really final ball and missing target as usual.
