Paratici Escaping Criticism

For all the fingers being pointed in Nuno’s direction at the moment, our new DoF Fabio Paratici has dodged a lot of the criticism.

He was the one who wanted Nuno at the club in the first place after first trying to get Gattuso. His failed to address two of the most important areas in the squad - ie a second striker and creative midfielder - choosing instead to spend part of our summer budget on a back up goalkeeper and a midfielder who is not even going to play for us this season, and then on top of everything else opting to buy Emerson Royal instead of Tomiyasu for a higher fee to boot.

Gil and Romero fine - have potential to be decent but that’s about it and our squad needed a lot more surgery done to it this summer.

I mean if we are going to criticise in the immediate aftermath of the summer then I think a lot of that criticism has to come Paratici’s way too.

Ok, I’ll leave you to your misery fest.

Fine. I'll come find you when this is all over and deliver a wry smile.

If I'm wrong and this all goes swimmingly you can scream from the rooftops about what a diiiiickhead I am.

In the meantime, enjoy the 'football'.

We were linked with Royal very early in the window and I expect was our main target, but it’s mentioned before Paratici does negotiate with for a few players for one position at the same time. Tomiyasu was probably one of the back-ups incase we couldn’t get Royal.

Would be generally interested to see any links to this because I didn’t see any rumours about Emerson until the final two weeks of the transfer window.

the issue with the window is that there was just too much to do. we needed to address about 5 or 6 first team positions, plus upgrade the squad, plus bring down the age of the squad.

Only one of the signings (Romero) appears to be for current first team impact, meaning that we have the same underperforming shambles of a first team that got the last two managers the chop. Jury out on Royal but hopefully he ends up being a good signing too.

Gil and Sarr I am pretty sure will be decent signings for the medium/long term.. but we badly need to improve that first eleven with smart purchases in January.

Paritici did a decent job moving on some deadwood, but there is just so much deadwood that it will take a while.

Also, there is so much cash tied up in lo celso, ndombele, and sessegnon for virtually no return, and that is really hurting us...

30m for sessegnon is looking like a total nonsense.

I said at the time, when people were getting all giddy about Paratici finding new players, he could easily turn out to be Baldini mk2. It is too early to judge him yet though, and he is working under the constraints of ENIC with Levy sticking his oar in.

Early days, but Tomiyasu looks a better player than Royal, which is worrying if this is on the recommendation of Paratici.

Back in the early days of the summer, whilst hunting for a new manager, almost every poster on here was happy to see a transitional year, get rid of the deadwood, get some bright young talent, integrate some youngsters, and see if we could build.

Well, we got rid of some deadwood, we've bought some bright young talent, we've integrated a couple of youngsters.

The only thing missing so far is attractive football, but we're 6 games in. Nuno wasn't here that long before those 6 games started, and the window closed after those games kicked off.

It's not pretty right now, but I'll hold off reaching for the rzor until a decent span of time to judge has passed.

We got rid of Aurier and Lamela. Not sure I would call Alderweirald dead wood.

Also personally I also wanted Kane sold. I can’t remember many scenarios where a player has pushed hard for a move, been forced to stay and things have then worked out for the club. In any case nowhere near enough surgery was done to the squad. At the very least we needed another creative midfielder.

As for the attacking football - I am willing to wager many many mortgages that it isn’t going to come.

Asking with quite a few of our older young players that weren't going to make it. Problem with deadwood is they need a buyer, Winks refusing a transfer didn't help.

I keep seeing Kane should have been sold, for what? The £75m plus as ons we were apparently offered? That barely covers Gil and Emerson, who apparently aren't good enough for our first team according to you, for one of the top players on the world in his position.

Kane would have been sold if our valuation was met, as it wasn`t, he is still here.

Kane has seen the ENIC nonsense many times before, broken promises and assurances of ambition that they never have any intent on following through with.

There is no wonder he asked to leave, unfortunately for him an appropriate offer never came in. I think Kane mentally checked out of Spurs in the summer, he thought a deal would be done. It will take him time to get his head back focussed 100%, he won`t be leaving in January, it could send us down.

We are all working on speculation here but if it’s true that Levy refused to field calls from City at one point then how could any valuation be negotiated for him. If
City’s final bid was around £100M I reckon we could have got that up to £125M which for me would have been a fair price under the circumstances.

1. Tomiyasu looked a lot better than Emerson in the Arsenhole match.
2. Why will Kane not be leaving in January?
The PSG match must have taught City that they really do need a striker.
3. Time for Nuno to turn things around before they really go apeshit.
