Buzzing from that one. I think machedas goal was the last time I felt such a buzz, simply as we looked down and out.
I think blaming the defenders is a bit too much as they simply don't have enough cover. Rashy coming back and Sancho on the left will help. What that means for greenwood I don't know.
The key tonight, and the lesson for management should be that once we had matic on we had a midfield and we suddenly pressed more. It paid dividends.
We all have moaned about our MF at some point but the proof was there tonight.
DDG was fantastic tonight and looks to be at his best again. But as good as he was we don't need him to be winning motm or player of the season, like before. The less he has to do the better for the team and results overall.
Ronnie bailed us out with the late goal but he was visibly tired towards the end. Yes he won us the game but he needs to be managed carefully. We can't allow another rashy and Bruno situation with him. We have the players to cover.
Hope this is the catalyst for a good run in the next few games. I know we sit near the top but we need to get the results and performances to stay there. Last couple of games needs to be a blip.
We need to move away from the individual brilliance element. Let's be honest Villarreal should have been at least 2 up in the first half. We simply need to play in a way where organised teams don't get so many chances against us. Again I think the MF is key here. Obviously matic can't play all the games but we need to address that in some way.
We have Everton on the weekend in an early kick off. Early kick offs haven't always been good for us but hopefully the win tonight gives us momentum.
Honest assessment?

I have to be honest and say that the performance was absolutely drab. Buy who cares? The win is all that matters.
Slightly concerned about reports that pogba was unhappy and full time. Don't know how true they are or why he was unhappy. I can understand why vdb was mad. Poor sod

Additional shout outs for Cavani who, like the song says, I am in love with, but only in a slightly non-gay way.
Unshout outs for Dalot, who gets the gas face

I was just posting on the point someone made about the 99 last minute winner and comparing it to tonight.
I agree winning is all that matters, however in games like the 99 final and as a one off it's a different issue than what we seem to have currently. The last two games and this one for most part is what's worrying. Arguably the last 3 seasons.
I'm buzzing with the win. But I'm worried going forward

Buzzing that we won but again it was far from good enough tonight.

Second half was a good game, exciting, great atmosphere, blockbuster ending. Less said about the first half the better, not just dull like CL games could be under SAF, but like watching 11 strangers try and play football together for the first time.

Only watched the first half, having seen the end result I think that’s probably the best way you could have won it. Last minute winners leave everyone on a high, the first half you looked like you were playing with so much tension at times.

Suffice to say it was a great result.

Have been saying this for ages. Matic is as good as McFred combined. He matches both their best attributes, aside from mobility which he has the nous to overcome with his overall awareness and discipline.
Bruno - Matic - Pogba really should be a no brainier in 60-70% of our games.
