Rodon and Paskotsi

Solid performances by both players last night. Paskotsi should also seal the end of Doherty at the club.

Why does Dier still get ahead of Rodon?? Is it just that he speaks Portuguese. Nuno needs to remove the Portugoggles...same thing happened with Jose.

Rodon plays decent for Wales but I wouldn’t say it’s anything more than that. And to be fair to the likes of Dier when Rodon has played (albeit in very limited appearances) he’s been okay and that’s about it. He strikes me as a bit of a Pavlyuchenko type player, the ones whose skills, talent, and reputation seem to grow whenever they are not in the team, and Spurs always seem to have far too many of these players around.

Rodon has age on his side. He has never been given a run in the side but when he has played he hasn't made any glaring mistakes which have lead to silly goals such as Dier. Would like to see Rodon play along side Romero for a few games on the bounce. They have better chance of forming a good partnership on paper than any combination with Dier or Sanchez.

I'm confused by the Rodon love-in. To my mind he's never really blown me away for Wales or Spurs. Getting your head on things and making last ditch tackles is good but the mark of a truly good defender is one whose positional sense means they rarely go to ground and have real ability on the ball. Neither of which I see in Rodon. Sure, you could say John Terry was a gutsy defender who threw himself at the ball at times but he had everything else too. I'm just not sure I've seen that in Rodon. To me he looks uncomfortable on the ball and can't wait to get rid of it. Throwing your body at the ball gets the headlines but it doesn't make a good defender.

Despite the mistake he made at the weekend, Palace's Andersen is the better player and I think we should have signed him from Fulham last year instead.

Some of the best defenders in world football all go to ground. Sorry but the above is fantasty BS. When you consider the likes of Bobby Moore, Baresi, Maldini and Van Dyke today. They all are or were capable of going to ground to make a last ditch tackle. This is what makes a world class defender. Someone who willing to put their body on the line when it matters.

Take King's tackle on Robben back in the day. He made up ground and flung his legs in the way to get the block in.

Can you name a few defenders who fit the characterists of what you talk about?

And I have seen Anderson go to ground many times for Fulham.

Read the post again. I said that you need more than that to be classed a good defender, not that having that attribute is a sign of a poor one. All the ones you’ve listed, along with Terry as I did, had that and a lot more. I can name thousands of defenders that throw themselves at the ball and none of them have the composure and positional sense to kick on.

Same...Dier and Sanchez should develop their partnership in UECL whist Rodon and Romero should be prem starters. I dont agree with swapping backline for mid week games but if we must we should swap partnerships and not individuals.

Rodon is still raw, but I’ll have him instead of Donkey Dier. I don’t see what every other Spurs fans seem to see this season. I still think he’s an absolute donkey. At fault for all 3 Arsenal goals. Nearly cost us v Wolves, only for Traore’s awful finishing, we would have dropped points. A complete clusterf** of a defender along with his partner in crime Sanchez. Would play Romero and Rodon for the rest of the season, then try and find a decent partner for Romero next summer. Sell Sanchez and Dier.

Heard Ginter is a target. Could be some decent deals in Jan or Summer 2022. We just need Rodon and Romero to hold on till then. Dier really is not it

I think Dier mainly gets the nod, is because he’s a leader & organises those around him... he’s bang average though... but still better than Sanchez...

I really can’t see Rodon getting in ahead of Sanchez/Dier, to partner Romero... so I can see us selling Rodon... & bringing a Patrici signing in...

I think Davies, Winks & Dele will be sold soon also....
