Enic Net Spend Worse than Mike Ashley’s

One of the stats doing the rounds since the Newcastle takeover is that Mike Ashley had a higher net spend during his time as chairman of Newcastle football club than Spurs did in the same period and if that’s the case… I mean I know ENIC have their defenders out there but that is still pretty abysmal.

It’s as baseless as saying “NEWCASTLE HAVE SPENT MORE ON AGENT FEES UNDER ASHLEY THAN ENIC”

It's funny, we used to boast about our net spend, admittedly sometimes in an ironic way, when we were signing players like Dele (when he was good) for 5m and Toby for £11m. Fans are happy enough with a low net spend if the club is successful. I'm guessing Dortmund's net spend it pretty low and they do alright.

Net spend has no more relevance than any other income.

Spurs have spent poorly, it's that simple. ENIC have made £280m available for transfer in the last five windows and delivered a new stadium whilst also increasing the wages considerably.

But it's been spent on players like Bergwijn and Lo Celso.

I like the look of Royal and Romero from the very little I've seen though. Look a step in the right direction.

NET SPEND MEANS NOTHING
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wages are the greatest indication of a club’s wealth, and usually idicative of the strength of a football team, but I wouldn’t at all say net spend means nothing, and if we introspect a little our fanbase as a whole has in past years been incredibly vocal about the importance of net spend. Obviously you probably haven’t given that you expressed your views on this in all caps, but generally I think Spurs fans are not in a position to now be downplaying the importance of this particular metric.

Btw, I think we can both agreed that smart scouting makes sure that the players signed are aligned with the way the manager wants to play. But to then get a group of players and then play them in a system that doesn’t suit them is just poor management and stinks of lack of tactics flexibility. Unfortunately we know that the spurs scouting generally leaves a lot to be desired. Hence the Clinton njies of this word.

Agreed. I just think that when you have yourself hired a somewhat intransigent manager, who only really believes in a certain style of play, you should fully commit yourself to trying to help him achieve his goals. One of our big issues as a club is that we aren’t run in any kind of holistic way and flip flop between managers and philosophies. At one time we are told attacking and entertaining football is our DNA, then we are told it’s all about being pragmatic, or that there is no better style of football than the intense pressing kind, to it’s just results that matter not the actual style of play. I really think that given our position in the pecking order, and our lack of resources in comparison to the clubs we want to be competing with we really need to carve out and define a footballing identity for ourselves, so that the system we have in place works, rather than it being tailored according to who is in charge at the time.

Yup. Basically we need to act smarter in the transfer market and with managerial appointments. Agreed. Good chat / debate

I think the Red Bull teams are exactly what Newcastle need to imitate. If there is a blue print they have pretty much nailed it and are developing quickly.

So, in summary, it seems spurs have been over-achieving? So what in fack are the fans revolting?

Id say be finishing top 4, making the UCL final, that is punching above our weight. We should expect top 6 and now that we have our cash registers of our new stadium chiming away on a regular basis, closing the gap with those above us, we should be challenging the top 4
