Will Newcastle Be Relegated

Not an outrageous qustion when you think about it.

The new regime might be the richest owners in football but they can't buy anyone until January.

That means 3 months of a manger uncertain about his future trying to motivate a squad of players knowing that they will probably be moved on at the first oppurtunity.

Teams tend to falter when there's the slightest hint of managerial change and it looks like Steve Bruce will be sacked as soon as a replacement is found.

Newcastle are yet to win this season, only Norwich have had a worse start.

Trying to attract top players to the Championship with its FFP restrictions will be a tough task.

I assume they have a manager and players in mind.

I wonder if timing the announcement during the international break was intentional so there would be no one there to answer awkward questions until a PR stratergy had been established.

When we were taken over, we struggled the first half of the season and around Christmas time were in the bottom three.

(Then that match against Hull happened - when Phil Brown decided to do a half time team talk on the pitch - much the amusement of everybody and the bemusement of the Hull players (Jimmy B got his pay off for that a season later))

Then the January transfer window happened.

Newcastle will be ok. I can’t see them getting relegated.

Newcastle are 2nd bottom on merit. They are genuinely better than Norwich atm, that's it, maybe Watford also. They need to outrun the Thorn bush Burnley, Southampton or Leeds (who'll probably pull away) they've been relegated twice over the past 10 years or so, never say never.

We had Kompany, Dunne, Richards and Zabba at the back that day with Hart in nets.

At least we had a decent springboard for future development.

Kompany at that time was being used as a defensive midfielder. And he didn’t play that many games in the first half of the season if I remember correctly.

But you’re right - it was a decent springboard.

Interesting that all those players you mentioned were at the club prior to takeover, and four of them would play a huge part in our rise.

And two would end up being undoubted club legends.

Your point is a good one. I don’t see any future club legends in the current Newcastle squad…

Apparently they can spend 200 mil and be within FFP, so I wouldnt bank on Newcastle relegating

It is a possibility given their league position at the moment but if they manage to invest in January then I think they will survive.

The Newcastle project probably won't be as simple as spend £200m and jump from where they are now to Europe. Everton have been throwing money at players for years in an attempt to break into Europe and they aren't really threatening to too much, Villa are going down that road now as well.

Under Mike Ashley they practically bought a new team one season to avoid relegation. Luckily for them there are enough rubbish teams for them to survive with a decent run from January onwards.

Will probably spend their way out of relegation in January, otherwise I think they may well have been relegated this season.

Could be 9 points from safety by this evening.
