Marcus Rashford , MBE

Honorary Doctorate degree at the University of Manchester.

What a young man

What possible reason could someone have to dislike Marcus Rashford (outside of the team that he plays football for)?

I'm all ears.

Mainly because he is a northern-based, working class socialist I reckon, who is doing well?

They really don't like them kind, much.

Rashford comes across as a decent bloke and fair play for what he id.

Also I dont understand how you could dislike someone based on the team that they play for either. Not a dig at you post

Of course, Irish, I wouldn't take it that way

I honestly think there's an element of ingrained racism in some of the criticism, the type that isn't explicitly articulated, but silently held that black people should know their place. Probably explains all the "he should be thanking his PR team" type comments.

Not because his national fame now significantly outstrips his on field achievements? Or because, despite many famous people being positioned to speak out against national poverty, he has become one of the foremost faces of it?

I would have assumed that it's more from a place of cynicism than from racism, no?

For my 2 cents I become exasperated often with things that BBC news decides I must read at length about. I have no problem with Rushford but I am bored of reading about it. I should probably stop browsing the news as often, as this is partly just my problem to deal with

So to be able to speak out on poverty, some people feel he has to have won more trophies?

I'm not getting into that aspect of the argument as I don't support it. However being more famous doesn't hurt exposure to your words and opinions
