Did anyone see the goal last night? How the hell was that not offside?.
They didn’t show any replays with the VAR lines drawn.
The argument is that García touched the ball and hence it’s a different phase of play. BUT Mpappe was already in an offside position. What is the defender meant to do?.
Seems very unfair for defenders.

joke of a decision, if thats the law it needs changing.

It makes sense in my eyes if a defender makes a deliberate attempt to play the ball, touches the ball but messes up the touch, that it’s now a new phase of play.

Issue is if Garcia had got a clean foot on it and just passed it straight to Mbappe then it’d be fine in everyone’s eyes. You can’t interpret whether or not a new phase had started based on whether or not the defender played the ball as intended or scuffed the pass/touch etc.

Precisely.
Additionally if he takes a bad touch, when exactly is the news phase of play? If the new phase of play isn’t at that moment, at what point can Mbappe start affecting play again ?

My personal preference would be when he is back onside.
If you're affecting play you should be offside imo, that's it. No ifs or buts, you're offside. It's worked well for decades.

It’s a daft law that inconsistently applied. It’s also silly to suggest he’s not gaining an advantage from his offside position nor interfering with play.

If they're worried about defenders touching it it should be thy have two touches before activating the blatantly offside player or something.

A blatant off-side no ifs or buts, and the referee didn't even check the monitor !

I like VAR...but this is patently wrong...it's gross incompetence

Football is corrupt. We all know it. For whatever reason, because of whatever bargain struck, France were meant to win this game.
Simple facts of the matter are that Mbappe WAS offside even before he touched the ball, and therefor any so called "new passage of play" is irrelevant.
It's like giving away a penalty, but because the defender carried on playing, it's now a "new passage of play" and therefore no longer a penalty.

only reason the defender stuck out a leg is because of the threat of mbappe running in behind...surely that makes him offside. its mental
