Frank Clark, let go

How very disappointing to read that Frank Clark has been ‘let go’ from his role as club ambassador, due to financial constraints. I understand the club has had to trim the wage bill, but what really annoys me is the number of ‘high earners’ in the squad who get nowhere near the starting eleven. I can’t imagine Frank was on a ‘mega’ salary, again unlike some of the players. I guess sympathy has no place left in football, and positions such as ambassador will cease to exist. Frank has been a great servant to the club since the late 70’s in numerous roles, and to me it seems to ‘lack class’ on the part of the senior management to first of all tell Frank his job was safe when COVID struck and then dismiss him. Personally I’d sooner have got rid of the likes of Jenkinson, Bong and a few others and keep a club legend in a role that was beneficial to both parties.

It’s football in the 21st Century sadly - no place for sentiment anymore - it’s been replaced with the all important results and spreadsheets

Yes, a sad state of affairs

Failed repeatedly to get out of the Championship for what seems like since Cloughie's days

You're lucky to still be in the second tier

You're welcome to contribute on this board, Sheriff, but you could do with being a bit more savvy.

This thread relates to one of our old players who won a European Cup winners medal with us; went on to manage the club and sign Stan Collymore and win promotion to the Premier league.

The club could do with establishing a Hall of Fame for respected servants of the club. It could start by going back to the 19th century and players such as the Forman brothers, Sam Widdowson, Gren Morris and coming up to date through Wally Ardron, Billy Walker, Bob McKinlay to the Miracle Men. Surviving members could have complimentary season tickets and other benefits.

Speaking of luck, it’s a good thing Roman’s favourite colour is Blue.
