Socialism

Brand is not antivax and has never said he is. To say he is, is a lie. It’s what the left always do. They lie.
_________________________________________________

I won't put a name up because I think this must be the daftest thing posted on here. I guess half of the population are left leaning, which means thirty odd million people are liars !

I am left leaning, though not a socialist in its true meaning;
This is not meant to be a political fight, just a viewpoint because it is in the front of my mind after the above comment and others.

I believe in a mixed economy, private ownership and public ownership.
Over my life time it has worked well, though not perfectly of course.
The private sector produces our entrepreneurs, inventors, the desire of profit, which is quite natural, drives some people to take risks, to put in far more than eight hours a day. It's the driving force of the economy.

So what is the left for, it's to make sure that every body has shelter, warmth, food, access to transport, communication and of course health, safety.

Voila, the NHS, few countries have it, including the country I live in. Despite what people think it is excellent value for money.

Safety, security. The Police force. Hands up those who think the American system is better. Each state or City has it's own force. I won't bore you with the obvious downside to this.

After that it goes downhill in the UK;

Council house sold off. Homelesness up 40% in the last year, and worse to come. Every bird has it's nest, but us clever humans can't manage it.

Transport. Roads not bad at all, in the main free to us. Here to visit my daughter in tha alps is 75 euros one way on the moter way. So around £130 return just to use the roads.
Railways were public now private, and they are making an expensive mess of it.
Cars, buses normal. Black cabs good compared to here.

Communication. When the telephone arrived it was run through the post office. It cost the same if you lived in Scotland as it did in London. This would not have been the case if private. It meant everyone could benefit, and what a benefit a phone was.
Mobiles would have been better if the mast infrastructure was public and private companies made the phones.

None of this is a rant, I live a contented life. It's to show how I think, and sometimes know, how the country and people have benefitted from this mixed economy.

None of this means any company has been 100% efficient, it is often pointed out the failings in the public sector, but the solution is to make it better, not scrap it.
Is the private better, sometimes yes, sometimes no, as the recent news about covid testing shows.

So no; not all the left are liars, corrupt, many just want to make things better, for everyone.

By the same token not all right wingers are liars (although Boris is) or corrupt.

So instead of alienating each other, how about recognising the strengths and weaknesses of each faction, and working together.

I guess the fees will deter some who don’t need to go to the doctor. Although some who do may be deterred too. It’s a balancing act. Too many turn up to accident and emergency and don’t need to be there half the time

Will more turn up at accident and emergency if they cannot afford the GP fee ?

Currently you should contact local Out Of Hours if you cant see your GP if you are in pain or feel ill. They will then refer you to Secondary Care if warranted. Better education is needed for that. If you think you are at risk of dying you should call 999. Obviously if you are badly wounded/injured A&E is the place for you to go. Yes many will use A&E if there was a fee to see a GP. This will mean better triaging in A&E Depts so that they will actually turn people away who are not requiring bona fide A&E treatment.

Fees to see a GP would be a disaster in the UK but I think many GPs see that this is their ultimate future. GPs really rate themselves.

At the moment a&e doesn’t turn anyone away even someone who has had pain in their knee for 6 months gets seen. This isn’t good because that’s not an emergency
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They conduct a pre-consultation and prioritise though. If your complaint is considered trivial or not urgent expect an extremely long wait.

It's called triaging.

If you are deemed not to have an A&E problem you will either be sent home (maybe with an Asprin or a plaster) or you could expect to wait for several hours to get seen whilst real emergencies are dealt with.

You must know this by now.

Or he's as thick as mince.

Maybe both.
