So, Wales now want independence. Scotland still clamouring for it.
When will the one country that would actually benefit from independence, England, finally put its foot down?
Discuss!

There starts the 'fearmongering' accusations.
It would be Brexit all over again.

The sooner England has independence, the better,is that what you are saying AB ?

Depending on what's on the table, I'd absolutely be open to English independence. Not sure what the downsides would actually be though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Purely from an economic perspective, it would be severely damaging to the English economy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Care to elaborate on why?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Erecting trade barriers (when there were none) and/or downgrading preferential trading relationships with your closest/largest partners isn't economically sensible. Given how interconnected UK supply chains are, it would be madness IMO from an economic perspective.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Seems a wild guess as to what post-UK life might look like. You've just assumed there would be trade barriers, which may not be the case at all.
Hence my comment "depending on what's on the table".
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Unless Scotland/Wales (as independent countries) shadowed English trading protocols/regulations (without having any mandate - as no Westminster representation) there would certainly be trade barriers.
If Scotland entered into a customs union with England they would both share a common external tarriff. Good entering from Wales would not. Scotland would need to erect border control/customs posts to ensure goods from Wales were being treated differently (tarrif applied) to those of England.
It's really complicated stuff, which is unlikely to be discussed during an independence campaign.

Fearmongering?
No, I just don't like people basing their opinions on assumptions. Hence I said, depending on what's on the table I'd vote for it.
If it means trade borders everywhere, obviously I wouldn't then go and vote for it.
I was entirely open to the concept of Brexit, but once the Brexit plan or more accurately lack of plan was put on the table, there wasn't a cat's chance in hell I was voting for it.

No point debating the complicated stuff during a referendum.
Stick to the emotive subjects, be short and snappy, repeat.
Some slogans for Scotland to use.
Fat bald cockneys
Morris dancing fairies
Remember Braveheart

We will always be better together so get any daft ideas about England being some kind of superpower among the home nations out of your head.
Everything this nation has achieved has been a collective for over 300 years, we are all 'crossbred' for want of a better term and it sickens me to read anyone slagging off or ridiculing any other part of the union and anyone doing so should be ashamed of themselves.

If there's a desire for independence in any part of the UK, I don't think there's a great will among ordinary people in England to stand against it (apart from yer true blue unionist nutters). Surely it's down to Scotland and Wales to decide what they want to do?

I can put up with the slagging. It’s the material stuff that grates.
