In summary, and what many on here suspected anyway, Scotland has one of the lowest effective match playing time and total match time along with one of the biggest % time the ball is out of play though one of the lower fouls per game and time lost to them.
Maybe begs the question should time be added for number of corners and throw-ins or ref stoppages whilst he sorts out jostling in the box or foul stoppage aggro? How is that assessed because there's clearly leagues where the restarts are much faster.
Should we have a count down clock and independent time-keeper? TBH, having watched this in use in the US I don't like it even though I should! Largely because the last 10 seconds of a game you get both teams sometimes just start hand shaking or celebrating and there's no dubiety that the ref might add a wee bit more because it's the last attack.
There's even rules in place to VAR a net bound shot when the hooter goes. (I believe that provided it has left the last players goal bound contact when the hooter goes then the goal can stand even though it maybe hadn't crossed the line)

The time it takes to re start play at a goal kick is shocking in particular
I guess Rangers and Celtic suffer most from that but even last night McGregor was taking an age over it
Last night I think 8 subs were used and a couple of injury breaks in play, add in McGregor time wasting but yet only 3 mins were added
Certainly a good argument for a timer type innovation

There seems a growing trend of play-acting by players who waste time by pretending to be ‘injured’ when they are not. I know that it is sometimes difficult to spot but when it does get spotted I think the refs should book the play-actors. Even better, if the rules were changed, these time wasters could be given ‘time’ in a sin bin for say 20 minutes.

A small part of it but my pet hate is the blocking of quick free kicks. Even worse when the attacking team is penalised cos the ref has to recall it because he is booking an offender.
If kicking the ball away is a booking then so should blocking a quick fk.

Problem is that the attacking teams now seem to accept that the opposition will simply stand in front of the ball until they have their defence in line.
Used to be a time when they’d rage about it; kick the ball against the opponent or whine to the ref. No longer it seems
