Is that what you really think? If Conte was a serious option for United then they would have moved for him whilst he was available. The truth is that, as good as he is, he doesn't really fit the direction was have been looking to take in the last few years or the squad we have, especially taking into consideration the youngsters coming through.

Someone like Ten Hag seems more suited to take over from Ole. Everything that I have read suggests that he won't leave Ajax in the middle of the season, so it could be that we are waiting until the end of the season to make our move.

That’s a bit of a risk though. What if he doesn’t wanna come? Everything I’ve seen from our ownership screams that they don’t have a long term plan. It’s just ‘let’s hope our current manager gets us into the CL and if not, we’ll worry about it then’

I would have agree with that up to the last few seasons, with the changes that we have made to the setup of the club. I think that there is a clearer idea of what we want to do in terms of the profile of player, investment in youth and employing similar mangers in terms of tactics/formations. Time will tell I guess, but for me, the fact we haven't gone for Conte is a clear indication that the club feel he doesn't fit the profile, as he is obviously an excellent manager.

A long term plan is great but we still need some form of short term success to blend with it. There’s a very real danger we won’t make top 4 and with that comes a lack of access to funds and certain players. Perception is everything and if we continue to lag behind the other clubs we may find the long term plan isnt quite as viable as assumed

It is obviously a risk, but you can't panic and throw the baby out with the bathwater. If the club have identified a/some suitable replacements, but they aren't attainable right now, I would rather we waited for the right man as opposed to signing a manager that is totally out of sync with our long term strategy.

I suspect the club are waiting for Pochettino.
