It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our former manager, chairman and club legend, Walter Smith.

A true legend, an icon.

RIP to the greatest Rangers manager ever

To see all the tributes from all corners and clubs is a huge testament to the man.... To all other clubs and their fans thank you. We may be hurting but the support from others makes you feel better about our country.

Apart from one group, one groups forums have been absolutely toxic.

Celtic fans on here have ben so respectful and for that im sure the mans family and club are truly thankful

I'd guess that's the sheep.
Shower of phannies

yup disgusting, Aberdeen the club put out a tweet i believe and had to delete it due to the responses on it?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It does make me worry a bit about tomorrow night given as luck would have it that's who we are playing. They haven't previously observed minute's silences at Ibrox for former players and events so given how raw it all still is tomorrow could get a bit ugly.

Aberdeen is a sheeitehole and full of miserable kants.

The city is grey and the people are grey.

Only place in Scotland I don't like

Sad news, RIP Walter

Smith is a legend and will rightly be remembered so. A winner and a gentleman. This is a testament to the man he was. Sympathy goes out to his family.

RIP. As a Spurs fan, he had little impact on my club, but even I’m hit by his loss such was the importance of the man in British football.

Just one of those people you couldn’t help but have respect, admiration and a soft spot for.

Can't believe our legend manager has gone. So many great memories of his achievements that I witnessed as a season ticket holder in the 80s and 90s.

RIP legend.

I was sad reading this yesterday when I found out. He was the bane of any Celtic fans life for most of the 90's then a hero as Scotland manager with some terrific memories.

I played beside one of his boys at the time that he was leaving Rangers to go to Everton and have coached against his other son and both are like Walter - absolute brilliant guys - testament to their upbringing.

Last time I seen Walter was at a game where I was coaching my boys team against his grandsons team. I was annoyed at the ref first half for giving some clearly wrong offsides against us, but in the second half one clearly offside for us wasn't given and we scored - he wandered up to me and said "I don't hear you complaining now" then gave me a sly grin and wandered back to where he was standing. Stayed around at the end as a lot of the boys in my team at the time were Rangers fans and posed for photos spoke to the boys etc. He was there to be a grandad but never batted an eyelid at putting a smile on any other kids face.

McCoist's interview yesterday was terrific and you could see how much he was hurting.

Walter may have been a Rangers man but like Tommy Burns he will be remembered as a Scottish football great who earned his respect across all divides.

Call Sign - great anecdote

There's been some really good wee tales coming out. I liked the Kris Boyd one and the Stephen Purdon ones I heard yesterday.

Didn't see the Rangers game at all but can someone who was there tell me about the minute's silence at ibrox.

Was it well observed by the Aberdeen fans (not sure how many were in the ground).

There seemed to be some doubts about whether the Aberdeen fans would behave. I was never in doubt that they would be fine but there's clearly a history there.
