Religion.

We've made clear socialism for all, given the government good advice on immigation, and surprised the banks on our knowledge of money.

Religion, faith, belief. For many people, including on here, this is something they hold close to their hearts.
So no mockery, abuse, respect for each faith.

Believer , agnostic neither believer or disbeliever,
atheist dibeliever.

I was brought up to go to church (congregational) and also went to Sunday school. In one lesson we were taught about Moses parting the red sea, and I though 'I don't believe that'
I was almost nine. I remember clearly, it was important, from then on I was an atheist.

Now I am agnostic, why ? for two reasons.
The first is space, more and more information about what is about us. Now I have a problem with two words
Eternity and infinity. Why a problem ?
Well to take eternity, it means for ever, so matter was here a million years ago, a million trillion years ago and will be here the same in the future.
Infinity, we now know that it is around thirteen million light years to the edge of our universe, which is quite a long way.
But here's the thing, above us, below us, to each side of us stretches infinity, therefore quite possibly an infinite number of other universes (if you watch Star trek you will know they all speak English). So maybe more than a million trillion other universes. In fact countless.
Now I understand every word I have written and the theory behind it. But my brain cannot comprehend it, it is impossible to imagine either. So, possibly each planet and star is a neuron, atom, of a greater thing who does comprehend it.
Not a god, a male or female, who has grey hair and decides our fate, but an 'it', It's the best I can come up with. It has put a scintiller of doubt into my certainty.

The second is common and normal. When I was young atheism was easy, it didn't affect me.
Now I'm at the other end of life I don't want oblivion after, I want to meet past loved ones, ones' to come, it is a longing I think everyone has, so my hopes also put a dent into my atheism.
The old saying says it better than I:
There are no atheists on a sinking ship.
So I am now agnostic.

Over to you,
Has religion made you a better person ?
Is believe in God but no religion a good thing ?
Does religion make the world a better place?
Should it be taught at school?
And many other questions.
I know nobody has the answer, but plenty have faith.
And remember, keep abuse and mockery off the thread.

And unlike Brexi and Trump’s wins, 80% is a huge majority.

And that doesn’t even prove the other 20% is correct. If 80% is bulls*** the likelihood it was all just hogwash seems the only salient argument left.

If we say there are 5 Abrahamic religions; although they overlap at certain points, they are 5 different versions of our origin, all claiming to be the only one.

So that means, at least, AT LEAST 80% of the religious texts are definitely wrong.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good points, but religions of men are made and controlled/edited by humans making it up as they go along and tend to obfuscate the "scientific" debate on the existence of a God. Religions being ridiculous is not proof that there's no God, its just proof that humans are a facked up bunch..

In terms of a God, no it doesn't. Zeus, etc, are not part of this argument.

But our old pal with all the omni-powers, he is.

Doesn’t prove there’s not a god (religions being ridiculous).
