Not disagreeing with what Keane said but I was surprised the other pundits/presenters made such a thing of it as well. I think one of them said that it ‘left a sour taste’ or something? Bit over the top, that. It was just a celebration and hardly offensive.

TBF, it’s actually quite difficult for a defender to ‘stick it to the critics’ unless they score a goal.

Though it would be quite amusing watching Maguire run around celebrating, with his finger to his lips, after not conceding from a corner, or on the rare occasion an attacking player doesn’t walk right past him with the ball whilst Maguire just stands there like he has early onset and can’t remember what he’s supposed to be doing.

I agree with Keane 100% but as a United fan and club legend is there any benefit for him saying this on live tv?

There’s no doubt it will get through to Maguire and possibly knock his confidence further.

It’s so frustrating that Maguire seems to put away these chances for England and not United. He had a decent chance early on against City and if that goes in a bit like Bruno vs Liverpool it may have been a different game.

Keane has made a name for himself as a no nonsense commentator. He really shouldn't be basing his punditry on if it benefits United, or he shouldn't be covering games with United players in them if he isn't expected to be neutral.

I agree that Maguire looks better at set plays for England and that must be frustrating for United fans. Your example is a poor one though, as the City defenders did well and made it really hard for him to score.

I just don't really see it as an issue at all to be honest.

He cupped his ears whilst celebrating, so what? If scoring a goal against Albania boosts his confidence a bit then great.

I have so much respect for Keane but at the same team he just sounds like an intolerably grumpy baaastard. I read something the other day about him losing his shīt with Ian Wright and storming off because he was 10 minutes late to lunch. Its funny I suppose but someone like that would drive me insane.
