When it comes to management and who takes the reigns at your club, a favourite ex player is near top of the list...except...he needs experience at the top level really doesnt he.
Whether S Gerrard succeeds or fails at A Villa we wait and see, but what we do know is Gerrard is taking a sensible approach to the liverpool job should it come up. Gerrard cut his teeth at Rangers in Scotland, a huge club with great support and he has experience of managing an intense rivalry...ie celtic Vs Rangers.
Now Gerrard moves into a premier league team, and a big one at that; Villa is another huge club and this time its in the premier league, so Gerrard now can cut his teth Vs Pep..Klopp and tuchel...some of the worlds best coaches. I tell you what...it beats managing Molde doesnt it and then moving onto one of the worlds biggest clubs and ultimately failing!!
Look and learn Utd.

look managing in scotlas is viewed by some the same way as managing psg in france or bayern in germany, or ajax in holland.
Theres two clubs who should win everything simply due to money. so If you win its so what?
when a manager breaks the mould like say Rafa at valenica, Klopp at dortmund, ferguson at aberdeen and so forth and so on people then sit up and take notice.
Gerrard is ok in europe for rangers, that was his main claim to fame. He didn't win a treble in scotland and really ought to have so getting the heel out when the cl and europa went awry this season is very wise imo.
Its going to be very difficult to do much more than win a cup at villa so he should be thinking of his exit strategy there too.
he actually could be thinking he can walk into LFC before villa fans realise they can't get to the top 4

I'm with moreinjuredthanowen, Liverpool job is not as easy as you think to get. We've had our own failures as well in Souness who also had experience in winning the Scottish league. In fact he won three top league trophies and three cups. Left Rangers for Liverpool when they were close to winning fourth championship. Much more experience than Gerrard. Really hope Liverpool do go down the Gerrard route. It will be hilarious when you all start turning on him as I'm sure it's been for you watching many Utd fans turn on Ole.
