TV show recommendation thread

Lots of great shows out there worth watching. Not least a show I’ll keep recommending to y’all (Ted Lasso) which earned 4 Emmy awards this year. You like football, you like great writing. You will LOVE Ted Lasso.

Other good shows include something I’m reliably informed is on UK Netflix and that is an Australian 6 episode mini series about the Australian refugee crisis called Stateless - very relevant in these times. Truly heartbreaking and thought provoking show.

📺 American Horror Story is great - although not for everyone.
📺 We’re all Better Call Saul fans so not much more to add.
📺 Wentworth is amazing and I can’t recommend it enough.
📺 Y The Last Man was very good but thanks to Covid was cancelled after one season 😔 Hopefully another network picks it up.
📺 Seeex Education is brilliant

Any recommendations? I still need to start Succession.

I'm watching a Scandi noir called the Bridge which I'm enjoying.
And recently watched something called 'In my skin' I think which I enjoyed. About a teenage girl with a lot of problems.

They were both on iPlayer

I recently watched the first series of The Bridge. I quite enjoyed it, and liked the two main characters, but the plot went in a couple of directions I didn't really want it to.

Not sure I'll watch the rest as they're not on iPlayer for much longer and it took me ages just to watch one series.

- An upvote Rosso's Chernobyl

x2 Only watched it recently, thought it was great even though I later read they overdid it with all the veiled threats. I also found out that part of the personal stories are based on the oral reports collected by a Belarussian-Ukranian women who I'd never even heard of but whose efforts in recording Soviet-era oral tradition earned her the Nobel Award for Literature.

I think they took some creative licence in order to translate some broader truths into individual dramatic scenes, conflated multiple characters into a single one, and I'm sure the trial denouement was fictional. I don't object to any of that. I know the "I'll have you shot" threat in the helicopter was criticised as unrealistic at that time - indeed, a government official wouldn't have had that kind of power. I actually took that more as the kind of crude language that an official could conceivably use, which wouldn't be understood literally, but I guess most of the Western audience wouldn't have taken it that way.

By the way, having spent a lot of time in the former Soviet Union in the 1990s, I can say that the set design, clothing, props, etc. were incredibly realistic and must have been created with great care and research.
