No To Poch!

So I have a confession... my mate had a spare ticket last night for City vs Psg and I caved in! Two reasons:

1) To see the GOAT Mr Messi

2) To get a first hand account of Poch's style, tactics and ability

Now this is no knee jerk reaction. By no means am I just basing this article on PSG's result last night, but if you look at Poch's career so far I see huge red flags.

*The first is his lack of any major silverware. Despite the fact he's heralded as this elite manager, and a certain poster on here wants to have kids with him, he simply doesn't have the trophies to back it up. Before people point out the 2 cups he's won in France, they're just Mickey Mouse trophies that are so unimportant Liverpool fans would cream themselves over if Klopp won.

*The second is his potential lack of loyalty. If you look at his career so far, he left Southampton when they were seemingly on the verge of something for Spurs. I also would worry that if he left PSG for us, he'd be incredibly tempted in the future to leave us for Tottenham if/when Levy fires Conte. Imagine the banter we would get if our manager left us for Spurs. The thought of it is horrible!

*The third is how he would de-grade our stature as a club. In what world can a manager who was sacked by Spurs, suddenly be deemed good enough for Manchester United? To accept Poch would be accepting mediocrity and we cannot allow for that. Imagine if Man City suddenly appointed Nuno. That's what it would be like if we got Poch.

*Fourthly (and finally) the way PSG play, judging by watching them, is absolutely not right for us at all. My observation last night is that he would have Ronaldo, Rashford and Sancho literally do no work off of the ball whilst the rest of the team defend. That isn't good enough for us.

Poch isn't the answer.

Hi Culer,

The most distinctive trait of pochettino's style of play, other than perhaps maybe his use of fullbacks, is the high pressing style. Spurs were in the top 3 for PPDA (Passes allowed per defensive action - so effectively how many passes the opposition get away with before you pressure them) in each of his 5 full seasons at Spurs.

Obviously this has been handicapped at PSG because he has three undroppable forwards who do not work hard out of possession, so his PSG side is not an accurate reflection of what Pochettino wants to do because of this.

I really wouldn't worry about that part

2 points

1 that stat is moot...he won fack all

2 even the fact about their front 3 is moot as the French League is generally dog shat... Even though PSG didn't win it last year...also on Poch
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Sheriff,

What you've said is really not at all relevant to my point, which was about Culer's concern that Poch sides don't press from the front. Don't see how a stat about pressing can be moot in a conversation about pressing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
err...you presented a stat on PPDA...what's the point of being top of this if you win fack all...ergo moot

and hee took the PSG job knowing that style of play was not achievable, whilst having the "best" front three in football

so I think my points were relevant
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not here to debate how good of a manager Poch is so how many trophies he's won isn't relevant. Culer is worried that poch sides don't press from the front but the PPDA shows that this isn't the case. Really don't see how this is confusing you
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How did PSG not win a dogshat league then....& how did Spurs not win anything...i'm not confused
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Again - not here to argue about how good of a manager he is. Really not relevant at all to my point.

Laughable how people are on here defending Poch. This is a guy who won NOTHING at Spurs and got SACKED for NOT BEING GOOD ENOUGH! Are we that much in decline that we not appoint a Spurs reject? The way certain posters on here talk, you'd think they want to have children with this guy! He's not good enough for us and he cannot be our manager. To accept Poch is to accept mediocrity. I suppose everyone's number 1 target to replace Cavani next summer is Vincent Janssen too then??

Dear me some people on here need to get a grip.

Yeah but Ole outperformed Poch by finishing in the Top 4 the year he was potted. Ole also spanked Poch at their stadium.

Try harder next time Sheriff
