As with most things on here, all I seek is some balance from people. We all know its a work in progress, we all know we need to strengthen in a few areas. New regime, new beginnings. Conte will give everyone a chance to prove themselves and so should we .

I quite liked the OPs title, from Gladiator where he actually defeats his enemy efficiently but without much entertainment. It wasnt entertaining, it was effective....a bit like our showing last night.

There were spells where you could see us playing how Conte wants us to, and Son's goal was another good example of that. Those short spells need to be more sustained and hopefully this will come with time (and may be a couple signings).

I think we have used to not having the ball as well. As long as the players are working their socks off and putting in a shift we should be ok against most teams other than the top 3.

The formation Conte uses with the double pivot always means our midfield will get over ran with Moura and Son always chasing back to give us more bodies in there.

Yesturday Brentford dominated the ball for large spells in the second half. I wonder if Norwich will do similar.

I thought we were bang average personally. We won through determination, not quality, which is no bad thing as it least the commitment is there. I just think we lack so much creativity. That’s why Kane isn’t scoring. He’s stopped making runs as he’s not expecting them. That defo needs looking at.

There are far too many sideways or backward passes which is about a lack of quality, confidence or options. No one is showing for the ball.

I think you’re right about Skipp. For the first time for me, he actually looked a real player tonight but to be glowing about Royal is just baffling if you ask me. I think he’s woeful. He’s defensively more sound than Aurier but in the wingback role he’s short of quality going forward. He’s not suited to it. He lacks pace so he never fancies himself one on one with the defender so he always checks back and gives it to a defender. All of our creative efforts came from the left side tonight and eventually a team is just going to plug that area, at which point Royal’s lack of attacking ability will be exposed. I’m amazed you thought he was good.

A wins a win for sure but overall not convincing for me but I’m not expecting it to be yet. I think the squad is poor. Until we get more quality in, we’re going to have to battle for three points in every game.

There's a long way to go but try and cheer the feck up, find some joy in victory because all you spout is negatives. 3 pts. clean sheet. Clear improvement, some good individual displays.

I said I’m not expecting things to be perfect now but I’m not going to go overboard on an average performance. I’m happy we’ve picked up the three points but there’s a lot of work to do, both with the players we have and on the recruitment side. Are we not allowed to mention that sort of thing? Is that too much for your little fragile mind to cope with? Jesus, get an effing grip you mug. Imagine every pundit in world football only talking positively. we are average (at the moment), but the prem is below average (apart from the top 3). so even being a largely average side, we have a shot at top 4, which is ridiculous.

its backwards and sideways as we dont have creative CMs, meaning that all attacks come down the wing.. with two wing backs who are getting used to the system, and will take time to improve going forward.

Royal is good, and will probably be the best right back / rwb we have had since Walker left. no issues there whatsoever... over time he will improve going forward, but he has defensive capabilities and an engine, which are the two most important things, with good delivery being a nice extra that can be worked on.

Kane has a one on one clear cut chance every game, and needs to start taking the chances, starting with Norwich at home.

as for squad is poor - agreed. once you get past the first 11, there are not many players that should really be at the club.

I mean he is already proving more solid defensively than both trippier and Aurier... and has at least as good all round physicality as both....

both are better offensively... but I he is young and can improve that.

Not entertained no how can you be with that spine there is literally no creativity in that side whatsoever aside from the wing backs.
Counter attacking bore-fest yet again. Brentford played much better football than us but its Brentford so they don't really have a cutting edge.
Im calling it early in saying this latest vanity project of Levys is not going to work. Conte is going to get royally peed off with his lot and Levy will have to pay for a new "project" in the not too distant future.
The DOF is completely the wrong fit and the right fit has just popped up at Utd. Look at the absolute mess our so called wheeler dealer has left behind at Juventus, high waged old players impossible to shift but hey ho Levy "knew" Fabio beforehand so must be the right man for the job. Still Levy must love paying the wages of 3 managers in the same season what an absolute tool he is along with the rest of the old mates act calling themselves a BOD. Levy wants instant success without a single idea about how he wants this team to play from the youth teams to the seniors. There is no succession for players coming through no plan whatsoever on young players bought from abroad. Cluster f*ck waiting to happen imo....Bah humbug
