It is still very early days for Ralf, so I am not getting too carried away. However, one thing that I really like about him so far is that fact that he is a straight talker. I watched his post-match interview on the BBC yesterday:

He is very clear and concise in what he says and there is no sense of confusion or doubt in his words. I think that this can only be a good thing in terms of him putting across what he wants from the players. We saw an immediate improvement in our performance levels yesterday, albeit I think that we need to improve the squad's fitness levels before we will be able to fully deploy the gookensprucken for a full 90 minutes. So the early indications are that he has been able to make some changes already without any confusion. We certainly pressed better than we usually do yesterday and more as a unit than individuals. I would like to see Cavani leading that press.
I would also assume that he will be quite straight talking to his players in terms of where they are in his plans and what they have got to do in order to get/remain in the first team. I am sure that he will tell a player when they haven't done well enough and it feels to me like he has the balls to drop players as and when deserved, which will hopefully mean we see some of the fringe players putting pressure on the regulars. It has been good to see Telles and Dalot getting in the team and doing ok.
All in all, a positive start.

Even with only the one training session there were some clear positive changes, we pressed further up the pitch, our defence sat further forward too. We also clearly played the 4222 system Rangnick is known to favour which allows us to press centrally further up the pitch. I guess with 4222 it means we’re not likely to see any wing play (apart from the fullbacks) but the fact Rangnick wanted to buy Sancho at Leipzig makes me feel confident he sees a place for him in this set up.

Also, 4222 also gives Pogba and VDB more chances in advanced positions, that is if either of them are still here next season.

One thing I did keep seeing was our comtinuing to pass the ball out to players on the touchline that were marked, so all they could do was pass it back where it came from. We've done it for years, we don't seem to play on that burst in the area between the touchline and the middle of the pitch like other teams do and it slows us down. Hopefully another thing Ralf will look at.

Yep. We also kept trying to force the floating diagonal switch of play when it wasn't on. They were heading it away with ease. There were definite positive signs though and we were trying to play on the front foot, even if we struggled to create much whilst doing so. Hopefully heading in the right direction.

Yes, he is plain-spoken. No cryptic talk, waffle or condescending speech. I'm sure both players and fans will appreciate that.
