Roberts

Some posters flare at the nostrils as soon as his name is mentioned. Others argue that he is a symptom of the problems in our squad at the moment, not the cause. For me, for a long time, he has been living on unfulfilled potential, to the point where I subscribed to that idea that whatever the problem is, Roberts is not the solution.
Even his recent performances, where posters argued that he is improving in key aspects of the game, they were drowned out by the familiar refrain, 'he's a forward, he's supposed to score goals.'
Against Brentford, he showed a glimpse of what he can do, with that incisive run in the Brentford box to steal the goal, and a blistering shot saved brilliantly by the Brentford keeper. His play was fiercely competitive and I can hardly recall a time he was bullied off the ball, or conceded possession needlessly. His performance was overshadowed somewhat by Bamford's theft of the limelight, but was this as good as we have seen him in a Leeds shirt?
Roberts is clearly valued by the man who matters most, and when you think that we got him for small change by today's standards, it would be crazy to let him go. Yes, there are questions to be answered but on Sunday, he assured me that he is at least capable of offering a response.

I feel a lot of fans in the past, myself included, have felt Tyler was not at a point he should be and maybe overlooked he is still only 22 also.

The pertinent fact is that a man who knows more about top level football more than all of us put together bar none, MB , probably multiple times more, puts him in the team.

Just got to trust MB's judgement, he's not perfect but he's never let us down yet and Tyler's been very good in recent games.

I think I see people complaing about the fact that people complain about him far more than I actually see people complain about him...

on here, definitely.

I think the views on here re Roberts are broadly speaking pretty fair… or at least a fair balance of opinions.

Elsewhere? Less so…

Personally I think he has talent but has failed to show it consistently. There’s a player in there we just haven’t really seen it as much as we’d like. There are mitigating circumstances, lost a lot of development time to injuries… learning a new position in the glare of the PL and often as a sub.

As long as he puts in a shift, which he does, he’s fine by me and if recent performances give him some confidence, all the better.

Seems our fans love a scapegoat and Roberts has been first choice in that category for a while now.

A few early rumours starting to emerge about Bamford being injured again and Phillips being out until February.
I guess we'll know more in the press conference before Chelsea. Fingers crossed this is not true but so far with rumours of injuries this season early rumours have had some substance.

The season that keeps on giving.

I saw the Bamford and Phillips thing, but am putting little stock in it right now. I think its a very easy clickbait story, and if the information was accessible then I don't see why no mainstream sources have been tweeting about it.

roberts seems to now have kicked on, he is a valuable member of our squad, still just 22, much more to come

Remember when Tyler was so injury-prone? Not so much now
He's getting stronger, he's quick-witted, more of the things he tries are working as he gains experience.
I reckon he'll peak when he hits 25 or so, and will be a formidable player.

I personally didn’t see any difference in the Tyler Roberts of the last 2 seasons and the one on Sunday apart from he scored a goal. His general game is good and we would all like him to have more goals and assists but a hell of a lot of his 100 appearances have been from the bench, in midfield or even out wide.
Stay patient with this player. Plenty more to come.
It’s not often players rise in value and he’s worth a lot more than the £2m or so we paid.

Every time I watch Tyler, I think: born footballer.

He's got great balance, can play with both feet,
head up. And makes it look effortless. Almost like he's
not trying. But he is. He's the football equivalent of an Austrian who was born on skis, next to a major ski resort. Silky smooth with great technique = easy.

Really like the lad. Obviously so does MB.
