What's your prefered 4-2-2-2?

It looks like this could be one of the main formations Rangnick is going to play, with an emphasis on filling the center and, of course, pressing the opposition when they have the ball... So, if everyone is fit and firing, who do you think works best in such a line up?

I'd go

DDG
Dalot Varane Lindelof Shaw
Fred Beekers!
Bruno Pogba
Cavani Rashers

I feel like Lindelof could excel in a more protected system and brings the ball out smoothly. The two #6 positions will likely be McFred, but would be interesting to see Beekers! in such a role (though Fred stepping further forward is paying dividends already). The attacking four are the biggest question marks. I think Pogba will be great in a freer role, but can understand why others would leave him on the bench.

Ronaldo will obviously start a lot of games, but i don't think he's the ideal man for such a formation... Cavani or Greenwood would probably result in an overall better team.

None of those are stupid dabbers with silly haircuts though.

There's a sociology doctoral thesis project to be had in studying whether there's a correlation between perceived inconsistency of footballers and exhibiting behavioural traits popularly associated with millennials.

Speaking as someone who increasingly feels disappointed with life as the shadow of time lengthens over my world, I don't rate any footballer who has a social conscience, dances while sober, or looks like he's enjoying himself.

'Twerking'
'Huge pain in the backside'
'it's just an insult to fans and the club how he behaves'

--------------------------------------------------

You can quibble over the word 'hate' but that's a lot of emotive disparaging language for someone who is merely disappointed at his inconsistency. I think it's fair to say there's some personal dislike in the way you describe him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why are you lot so protective over him? It's absolutely baffling at this point. I honestly don't get it.

Don Draper Clearly has posters of him on his wall. He will never have a bad word said about the dabber.

Hatred? I don't hate the guy. Never met him.

Never disliked a Utd player as much as I do him. Absolute pansy and can't wait till he's gone. Dab your way back to Italy Paul.

But again that's not hatred. By all accounts he's supposed to be a very nice guy who gets on with everyone.

My dislike ( not hatred ) comes from the antics that go with him and his agent and his inconsistency.

I don't hate a single Utd player. I think you have issues mate.

That's just semantics, SE85. You might not call it 'hate' but you have a strong dislike for him which is fully committed and obviously emotionally charged.

I can't speak for the others, but I wouldn't say I'm protective of him. As I said a few hours ago, I find the agent antics distasteful and I'm not happy that he hasn't stopped that. I also think it's clear he hasn't delivered for us - but you have to be quite one-eyed to conclude this is all on him. There is a stack of evidence that he can be a productive, and often a decisive, creative force within successful, balanced teams if you use him right. He tends to be very good in a three-man midfield. He has very impressive stats when deployed in an attacking role on the left. He's not very good in a two-man midfield. Everyone knows that, but this club has invested something not far south of £200m in transfer fees and salary in order to play him mainly in a two-man midfield for five years.

This conversation is only happening on this thread in the context that we finally have a manager and formation where his skill set ought to fit quite well. I accept he's likely to leave, also that he's not guaranteed to gloriously succeed in Rangnick's team, but my position is that I'd love to see it attempted and working out. That's not being 'protective'. It's looking at the situation in a rounded way and not [whatever-word-you-want-to-use-instead-of-hating] the player to the extent that I'd rather close the book now than read on in the possibility of a happy end.

I think any sensible fan would hope Pogba can work for the club and this new system potentially enables him to play in a role where he excelled in at Juve. That isn't being protective of him, in fact I think those that have suggested he could fit in the new system have all agreed he has been inconsistent.

Thank god Pogba isn't South American or SE85 would really hate the lad.

I reckon ST85 ran Pogba's DNA through one of those sites and found trace elements of south american heritage

Maybe swap Shaw for Telles, whose left could be massive in this formation.
