We need Alexis type of player selfish and fighting machine not the hopeless of a Captain we currently have.

We have him and his name is Martinelli. We stopped his progress by benching him more than we should have (for no apparent reason), but keep on playing him and by next season, we'll have a hell of player.
We can't have too many of that type in one team.

Yes that would certainly help, plus a clinical striker. But what’s equally important is the players are actually coached with what to do in the opposition half, and how to build attacks. So much of our game seems focused toward playing/ defending in our own half, backed up by the majority of signings we’ve made recently. Seems Arteta has just forgotten that teams need to be able to score goals to win games, not just defend well.

I get it’s hard to sign the defenders we needed plus the strikers in one window. That Still doesn’t excuse how we’ve basically just gone backwards in our attacking play since Arteta joined, we do have ability in those areas but he’s done nothing to make them any better. I hope Arteta, the coaches and edu realise this and really focus on signings in those areas and building better attacking systems, if they don’t we’ll never escape mid table

Gabi all the way and he's way better than Sanchez whilst not being a total selfish little d!kwad. Martinelli is direct and single minded, yes but not selfish. Plays well with his teammates and is happy to give the ball up to them when that's the better option. He's actually really good at picking which is best for someone so young.

He and Saka are my two biggest worries with Arteta at the helm. Underplaying one whilst overplaying the others equals toxic to the long-term career of both. Either one can ruin a player permanently in just one season and Arteta's pushing on close to a season and a half now. We are in serious danger of Martinelli and/or Saka, ending up "Never did fulfil his potential," "Just wasn't the same after that injury." Or "Left AFC to save his future."

Maybe Martinelli will get a chance up top soon, auba is way off form and playing lacazette didn’t make a difference, Pepe is seemingly totally frozen out for some reason, balogun doesn’t seem ready, so could be a chance for Martinelli to stake a claim. Might not be his ideal position at the moment, but we’re running out of options. Although for another unknown reason Arteta seems to have started to fixate on nketiah, who’s leaving, and could even agree a contract with a new club in the coming weeks, but despite this I wouldn’t be shocked if nketiah started up top before Martinelli

Cant agree with that. Arteta is clearly trying to turn him in an Arteta type player and my honest opinion is it is ruining him. He's not running at defenders like he used to and is becoming less effective. His driving runs into the box with the ball where what made him popular with fans but are a rarity now. After his injury last season Arteta made comments about him not be right mentally and tactically to play. When he came back the only thing that had changed was his not running at defenders with the ball, seemed clear to me it was down to coaching him not to.

So basically the op is saying we need a player who can carry the team for a couple of years. No sheet Sherlock.
