Congrats Max

WOW! What a finale. Great for F1. I hoped for a result for Max but respect to
Hamilton for his reaction to the outcome. I have stopped referring to him as Mad Max as I believe he no longer deserves that tag.

It is funny though Mercedes should argue if they treated Verstappen the same as Sainz then Verstappen would have had to overtake backarkmers and Hamilton to win the championshop on the last lap.

Masi is supposed to not favour championship contending drivers over others. Imagine if Verstappen tried to overtake but Sainz also had a chance to overtake Max and Verstappen lost out and Hamilton retook Verstappen and won the championship.

Masi didn’t allow let them race scenario. He allowed Verstappen to race. Also it was funny ricciardo had to wait.

To reiterate....Mercedes themselves engineered a situation, where late in the race, Verstappen, in a clearly slower car on the day, would be on far superior tyres to Hamilton....Mercedes did absolutely nothing to counter-act that after putting Hamilton on hard tyres early on in the race

The decision not to bring Hamilton in, with 20 laps to go, under the VSC, was the big decision that left Hamilton vulnerable if there was a late safety car

I do not believe for one second that Mercedes would have brought Hamilton in under a late Safety Car, whether it happened with 5, 6 or 7 laps to go, as it would've meant sacrificing track position very late on in the race, so for me, it would not have taken an unusual intervention from Masi to result in the same outcome as we saw, the overtake would simply have happened sooner

Red Bull took the gambles with changing Max tyres, and it paid off

The FIA have looked at it, and found that what Masi did was actually allowed and legal within their own rules

So that's it, end of

Folk can argue the morals of the whole thing until the cows come home......it won't make any difference and is another debate entirely

Also, moaning that Verstappen is a dirty wee git that deserves nothing won't make any difference either....he's world champion

...........
There gamble was only paid off as Verstappen was allowed to overtake the backmarkers. Mercedes didn't expect that to be allowed and it wasn't for Sainz and Mercedes assumed we would finish under the safety car or Red Bull would have to pass the backmarkers.

In both scenarios Hamilton would have been world champion but Masi then only allows Verstappen to overtake backmarkers. Why make a rule for 1 driver?

Verstappen should have had to overtake the backmarkers and Hamilton. If he did that I would congratulate him but as Masi cheated Hamilton is technically the world champion.

When the Safety Car came out, Hamilton drove past the pits, but Verstappen had the chance to get straight in and change his tyres immediately

Verstappen was also 18s ahead of Sainz and 12s behind Hamilton, with the estimated time lost with a pit stop under the VSC/SC being 14s, so even if Sainz stayed out, Verstappen would have came out ahead of him...but Sainz pitted anyway, meaning Verstappen got a free stop

The only time Hamilton could have pitted and gave himself a tyre advantage for any racing laps at the end of the race, would have been if he went in before Verstappen did, which would have sacrificed track position if Verstappen stayed out...so Mercedes gambled on the race ending under the Safety Car, when it was unknown whether that would actually happen or not.

And as said already....on lap 37, there was a VSC incident, Hamilton was 6s ahead of Verstappen and 30s ahead of Perez

Pitting at that stage would have meant he lost track position if Verstappen stayed out, but he would have had over 20 laps, in a faster car, on the same or better tyres than the Red Bull, to retake first place

Both of these decisions were key...it was not all down to what Masi did late one

What people are forgetting is Sainz. He should have started the last lap behind Max, as Sainz wasn’t allowed to overtake the backmarkers then Verstappen shouldn’t have been allowed to as well.

The FIA actually didn’t allow them a let them race scenario Horner wanted but made it let Verstappen race scenario.

Mercedes not pitting under VSC was a crazy decision. That guaranteed Lewis fresh tyres and massive pace for end of the race and Max was always gonna pit anyway and there was enough laps to make any deficit if he didn’t.
