Stamford Bridge will host a pivotal meeting of two sides chasing Manchester City for Premier League (PL) glory this campaign, as Chelsea welcome rivals Liverpool to the nation's capital. This could serve as a potential title-eliminator given the mood City are in, especially as once league leaders Chelsea have lost ground in recent weeks, drawing three of their last four PL fixtures (W1).
Home hasn’t been the banker Chelsea are used to this campaign, as they’ve been slightly more efficient on the road in picking up 23 points vs the 19 earned on their own turf. The ‘Blues’ would love to get one over on the ‘Reds’ to start the new year though, especially as they’ve won just one of the last seven home H2H league matches (D2, L4).
These two sides remain the only PL teams yet to see themselves trailing at half-time this term, and have matched each other with 12 wins apiece, albeit Chelsea sit one point ahead having played a game more. Visiting Liverpool will be looking to put themselves in a position to cash in on that game-in-hand by becoming only the second-ever side to win three consecutive PL matches at Stamford Bridge.
However, manager Jürgen Klopp has witnessed his side concede the first goal in their last three PL outings for the first time since November 2019, a run that was capped with a shock 1-0 defeat to Leicester last time out.
Liverpool started and ended their year by failing to score in an away match, yet scoring 75 goals in the 28 away matches in between shows how fearless they can be on the road
Players to watch: Chelsea’s Mason Mount enjoys the comforts of home with six of his last eight club goals notched at the Bridge, while Liverpool may look to Diogo Jota for an early impact, as he’s scored nine of his 12 goals this season during the first half.
Hot stat: Only five of the last 19 H2Hs saw over 2.5 goals scored in regulation time.

Great game, never bad to get a point at SB and Kovacic's goal was insane.
Thought Chelsea were better in transition but we created the better chances. Kelleher didnt have much to do for the final 80 mins bar pick the ball out of his net.
