Luke Shaw Interview

A thoroughly honest assessment after the game from Luke Shaw last night. Questioning his team mates togetherness, intensity and commitment to the cause.

I think it’s becoming abundantly clear the players simply don’t have the will you win and play for a club like Utd.

It’ll be interesting if Ralf does take on a DOF type of role having managed the players, you’d think they’d want to impress somebody who could take up such a role in future,

Sick of these interviews from players telling us what we already know or suspect. Shaw himself has underperformed this season and is now suspended for the next game looking at FPL. What's his excuse for the way he's played this season. There ain't any

----------------------------------------------------------------------

What are they supposed to say? The club has media commitments and someone has to go in front of the camera. I actually thought that Shaw's interview was better than most in that he didn't just reel out the tired old cliches.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Elvis it was full of the tired old cliches,

Front foot, intensity, 100 %, doing it for the fans etc etc

and then he deflects with the shout out to Phil Jones

These cants need to start doing their talking on the pitch

None more so than shaw himself
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I said that is wasn't JUST tired old cliches. He said a few things that most players don't usually. To me there was a real hint within his words that he wasn't happy with a lot of the other players. A suggestion that players were hiding on the pitch and perhaps weren't listening to the manager.

Recent interviews especially Shaw's last night have seriously ramped up the pressure on the players given they've started publicly questioning each other's attitudes. Unfortunately for them they've nobody to really hide behind anymore.

If things don't improve soon I think the fans will get quite nasty toward the players inside the grounds.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If questioning each other helps weed out the weaker players then I'm not against it. The players talked about standards when Ronaldo joined. Since then though they couldn't have really done more to show they've not taken anything at all on board.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Ronaldo is famed for working on his game throughout his career. His personal standards that made him stay longer on the training ground when others had left.

Interesting to hear Shaw mention about getting new ideas from rangnick in the upcoming training sessions. Hopefully the training doesn't have the players driving home in the dark

2 things that I think were important from Shaw's interview. Firstly, the last line about how he hoped the manager could put over some new ideas to training this week. Was that a dig at the manager, or at the players for not listening? I suspect the latter.

The second point was about Jones. I think that Shaw made such a big deal out of highlighting Jones' performance because of the commitment that he demonstrated and other didn't. Jones, when fit, is a good defender. But I think that his performance yesterday highlighted that we are missing a few players with Jones' character. Players that will put their body on the line and fight for every ball and tackle. The reality is we aren't going to be able to rely on Jones to be one of those players, but it it does show that we are missing his type.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
100%

Missing a Roy Keane. Not the best player on the pitch but one that is 100% effort and never getting dropped with the players knowing that and anyone crossing him in the dressing room will be the one getting dropped. Maguire is not that character and I'm not too sure who is?

That should be a priority to find or buy. I look at the captains of the other clubs and I don't see another captain that is good enough or likely to make themselves available so it will need to be nurtured.

Of the existing squad, 'possibly' DDG though I don't like keepers as captain, McT though possibly not good enough and I don't know his character, Jones ditto maybe not good enough or fit enough and that leaves Rash but he needs his head in gear and I don't like a forward as captain as they are going to get subbed.

Any new manager might need to manufacture an incident that enables him to reinforce the authority - something that Fergie would have done and relished.
All these players are decent. Leave the coaching to a coach and the new man should be good psychologist - sort out the heads in that dressing room. A dilemma.

Do we have a player who could say this directly who could say this direction the players. Blow up at them even if it was in a game??? Ralf clearly is not that type of manager but a respected player in the squad could get away with it. Maybe Mata? Maybe Cavani?

Why? For example at West Ham, nobody is questioning Noble when he speaks. He does not start every game but he is an unquestionable leader on the team.

Because he's been there forever - that is different and why I mentioned the players I did. Understanding the club and how it has got where it has is important. Mata maybe but his time has maybe passed? I'm no expert, just a casual observer.

United are becoming like Everton. It doesn't matter who manages them they're still undeniably poor.

------------------------------------------------

Among all the hysteria I think some people are forgetting that we've only played six games under Rangnick and he's still only had a small amount of time with the players, some of which has been disrupted by Covid.

If we're still playing like this in two or three months time then there'll be plenty of reason to come to a conclusion that things probably aren't working.

What's amusing is there are some people who have been extremely quick to write off the manager which is odd considering they defended Ole for years for similar shiiiit performances and results.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be fair, Conte hasn't had long with us either but he's currently unbeaten in the league and after 6 games you could see the effects he's been having. It's not even as if United have had a tough run.

Yes, I thought he was pretty straight about the game. A good interview in fact

One of my mates thinks that Bruno deliberately missed the sitter he had as well.

There was no need to strike that ball the way he did
