Why isn’t this guy even getting a look in?
As I’ve said before I don’t think he is the saviour and if we were playing well and winning I would have no issue with his omission but he’s been treated unfairly.
If you look at our current squad pretty much every other player has at least been given a run of 5-6 games with the first team to establish themselves. Donny has never been afforded this.
Why not?
Ralf is essentially echoing Ole in the press saying the attitude is good and he’ll get his chance. But if he’s chance is in a cup game with other bit part players then what is the point?
He was given a chance against Young Boys and he wasn’t great but he was in CM with Juan Mata.
If he’s given 6-7 games in a row and is poor for the majority you would say fair enough he’s had his chance and it’s not working for him.
It just irks me so much to see generally poor players in the starting line up week in week out while this guy doesn’t get a look in in any position.
Another Donny rant

There is one midfielder who can play in attacking midfield and central midfield on this team. VDB. With a narrow midfield being used in attack, more opportunities for pass and go, 1 and 2 touch play. VDB came to us with that as one of his main skill. He is probably the hardest working midfielder in the team with maybe Fred out doing him on this. He makes attacking runs into the box that even Rashford or Greenwood do not make from those positions.
I repeat, with his versatility, VDB is possibly the best suited for this formation. In fact, the likes of Rashford and Sancho have obviously struggled in this formation, Fernandes has been in the worst form of his career with us. There is no justification why VDB has not played. Step back and look at it, stop taking my position as the RDD position.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you about the merits of trying VDB. As per my first post in this thread, I have no idea why he hasn't been playing and can only speculate. I'd have tried him out if I were in charge (but then I'm also aware I'm a casual observer and not one of the most influential minds in the sport).
The point I made was a much narrower one that I really don't understand your contention that we've been playing 4 central midfielders in the 4-2-2-2, a claim you haven't yet chosen to substantiate.

However, it does seem unorthodox and while I'm in favour of innovation, the club has a troubling history over the last 8-9 years of trying to do things its own way, and doing them badly, when there are tried and tested models for running a successful sporting organisation that they could have copy-pasted.
(The confusing fact that Fletcher is nominally 'technical director' when his role seems to have nothing in common with what is generally understood by that term just underscores this wilful idiosyncrasy of approach.)
---------------------------------------
It's odd isn't it. If you've been struggling for so long, why not look at other successful clubs and see how they operate and maybe take a few pages out of their books rather than constantly trying replicate a failing method, the arrogance and stupidity is unreal. I mean look across the City, we've spent just as much as they have past 8 years, yet what have we got to show for it compared to City? Yes they landed a damn good manager but even before that they had a strategy and and plan in place, and that's what attracted such a manager to them. Can talk about their spending all you want but we're the last club that should be talking about City's high spending when we've wasted almost a billion and have only a couple of cups to show for it.
Its like the club thinks what worked under SAF will work again like football is still how it was 20 years ago. Even in the last 5 years Football has changed.

we need a past the ball 5 yards coach to report to the technical director and director of football

There are set piece coaches, throw in coaches, we need a past the ball 5 yards coach to report to the technical director and director of football
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe get the set piece coach to do that, as he clearly hasn't improved anything in his current role

Difficult to see from the outside when we’re playing so poorly, I guess there just be something wrong with his approach to training.

With the way we have been playing for most of the season, there really is no justifiable footballing reason why he shouldn't have been given a fair chance. We are at the point now where he should just be allowed to leave. Have no idea why Ralf is talking about keeping him to the end of the season. If DVB wants to go to the world cup he should force his way out….

Maybe he’s just absolutely shiiiit in training?

I honestly think that this can be the only reason. Perhaps he gets bullied off the ball by the more physical players? That said, I don't really think that has been the case when he has played in the firs team. I don't know, its a really weird one. I do think that he should have been given a proper chance, but I don't see it happening now, unless Ten Hag is going to be the permanent manager.

Could be any or all of elements of his physical performance, his technical performance, his demonstration of his understanding of and compliance with instructions, his attitude/work rate (although I suspect that by know we’d have heard something about that, but maybe not)…
We just don’t know. He might simply make the other midfielders look like much better options on the training ground.

It seems like manag3lers who come into United start off attacking and then suddenly get spooked. Whether its pressure from above or they suddenly see the head lights. Even Jose started off attacking the first couple.of months before he bottled it. After Palace I thought, right finally some attacking King football, but we've out the breaks on and playing defensive players with no flare.
Give Donny a game or two next McT and see how he does. Or switch to 433, Ralph other preferred style and play McT, Bruno and Donny in the middle.
