Cracks Starting To Appear Already?

Antonio Conte says Tottenham have to match his ambition if he is going to be a long-term success at the club, but insists he has no concerns about the short length of his contract.

The Italian, who took over from Nuno Espirito Santo in November and only has 18 months on his deal, has already made it clear how far he thinks Spurs are from challenging for top honours.

He sounds like he’s on board with the project to me

My opinion too. He sounds he's exactly doing what he was brought on for. Not embellish the trd, and laying it how it is to Paratici and Levy.

Not sure why OP is trying os hard to find something where there is nothing.

He is a more demanding manager than others we've had. We know that unless Levy changes his habits then the ambition shown by the board isn't going to be matched by Conte, and so he'll walk.

And finally Spurtle. What I love about Conte is no bulls** and that’s why I desperately wanted him last summer. I knew he would call the squad out for not being up to scratch. It’s about bloody time mate. None of this “we have a fantastic team” rubbish. Conte is basically saying what all of us know, expect he is sending a message to the chairman. Levy can’t hide anymore, hence the “meeting” in the Bahamas with Joe Lewis. He knows full well the club have to back this man.

Yeah he won't take any crap Don. We'll see how this goes down with Levy during the transfer windows. We have a new stadium now with more revenue coming in so there is less excuse than there used to be. There have been some encouraging signs in recent windows with large amounts spend though.

But still it's a lot to ask for a happy ending. What we already know is that Levy pulled out on Conte once before because of a disagreement over finances. We know that Conte left Inter and I think Juve because of similar reasons. We know that Poch complained he wasn't supported well enough in his final seasons. AVB complained about Levy too. It doesn't paint a rosy picture that this is a match made in heaven by any stretch.

I'm just happy to be on the ride while we are doing reasonably well and hope we can at least achieve some short term success with Conte, cause I don't see a long term project here.

Dude, keep up The meeting with Joe Lewis involves another investor from Singapore, that's for naming rights and further business (and pleasure)

Nothing to do with the transfer market which is with Paratici.

Levy hasn't jumped on a speedboat and off toe Lewis to get us the kitty?

What sum is defined by ‘match his ambition’?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No idea. We will have to wait and see won't we, or maybe not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But Conte has a history of kicking off with his board despite unrealistic requests. Would you accept that "backing the manager" should come with a limit?

We also know Levy has a history of not properly backing managers too.

I don't know what would be unrealistic demands from Conte, but there's going to have be a change in approach from one party for this to be a more long term success. I'd argue it's going to have to be Levy cause Conte can just walk and he'll still have his reputation intact.

Would personally say £100m net spend per summer is fair. With covid settling down it looks like we'll get a full season for gate receipts.

We've probably spent £70m or so net per season since the stadium was built. I think a bit extra for Conte isn't too much. The stadium was supposed to let us compete at the top.

I said when he arrived that he won't be here long due to Levy and ENIC's lack of ambition, and I stand by it.

I hope I am wrong though.

And being ambitious for me is identifying the players we need, and bringing them in quickly with little fuss, even if it means paying slightly over the odds. None of this last minute shiete and haggling over a few hundred grand that Levy is so famous for. Go out and do our business early and clinically for once. Other clubs don't seem to have a problem being clinical in the transfer market.

Its pretty clear he's trying to twist Levy's arm for January funds.
If nothing happens in January, I think Conte may be gone when the short contract is up.
