West Ham goal

“A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball, including by deliberate handball, is not considered to have gained an advantage, unless it was a deliberate save by any opponent"

Hjelde deliberately played at the ball hence the West Ham players are NOT offside. That’s my understanding from the laws of the game?

The decision to award the goal was therefore CORRECT?

Not often Bielsa disappoints me but don’t understand the team selection. Either play to win or throw the kids in for me. One or the other. High risk of injuries to senior player today for a slim chance of that side winning the game. Even worse when we go a goal down to bring more seniors on. Just don’t get the selection at all. Concussion rules are quite strict these days so that’s possibly Firpo missing now for next game.

9 seniors still standing

The score finshed 2 nil yet a lot of whining on social media about 1 of the TWO goals we lost by. Offsides were brought in to prevent goal hanging and that was far from the case here.

There was no way that we'd have thrown caution to the wind in the final attacks if the score was tied at 0-0
so I don't follow your logic.

"We were soundly beaten"--

If offsides were given he might not have said that!..

FA Law 11, offside:
a player is deemed offside if they play the ball, interfere with play by obstructing an opponent, or challenge to play the ball, whilst in an offside position.

Bowen was clearly offside, obstructing Meslier and challenging to play the ball.

Surely no wiggle-room in that?

We lost and we deserved to lose. Now let's move on.

Onside, offside, goal, no goal!..

Whatever, the priority is the next game, hopefully one or two back and the younsters from the bench showing they're learning then things can only get better!..

I'm sure West Hams coaching staff know the next game will be a little different!..

Ref watch on skysports will be good today. Think they'll have to get comfortable chairs out for this topic, been doing the rounds all morning.

Agree. I'd be disappointed if we aren't able to field a stronger line-up (unless Bamf trips over the cat), and fully expect us to put in a decent performance next week.
