Marcus Rashford

Is it time to accept that he's just not very good?

Rashford has always been over rated by some of our fans. He is just not as good as they thought.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But he is not alone in that. There are quite a few players who are either not as good as the fans think they are, or that they and their agents think they are.

Yet the narrative is always drawn to his campaigning when he has a bad game.

Rashford has been one of Uniteds 'better players' over the last 5 years. Since he came back from surgery after the Euros hes been at least as poor as the rest of them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No one has said he is alone in that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No they certainly haven't, but this article is pointing the finger at Rashford. There are plenty of other articles on here telling us how crap DDG, AWB, Lingard, Maguire, Fred, Shaw, McT, Matic, Mata, Bruno all, are without much reasoning (apart from Ole killed them all from some clowns)

But with Rashford its usually down to school dinners when he is crap.

I was actually shocked seeing Rashford vs Villa. I thought he was pulling up and out and had a face like a smacked arze, due to injury. But Ralf confirms he is fine. So some of the fans and media will probably now advise him to cut down on his campaigning, concentrate on his football and he will become good again?

He was very good for us at times but he’s in a worryingly long poor run of form and seems to have lost some of his explosiveness.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeh, he doesn't look as quick now as he was before his back injury. Although still recorded the 4 fastest times for any United player last season. Do you think that he takes longer to get up to top speed now?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think similar has happened to Martial.

I’m not claiming to be a top athlete or anything but I was lightning quick in my teens and early 20’s and was rarely outpaced in an amateur game or Astro game etc. When I hit my mid 20’s my acceleration dropped hugely.

Now I didn’t look after myself like you’d hope a professional athlete would but it’s very possible to lose pace even at an early age.

google says the following on losing pace...

'It is no secret that as we get older, we tend to become slower. The same happens with footballers, footballers lose pace'.

There you go. QED

Very informative. Any ideas on at what age?

I don’t really think this is true. There have been plenty of in depth articles on those players listed.

The problem with Rashers is the drop off in form. It has been much greater than some of those you listed who never had much form to begin with.

Bit of a cheap shot targeting Rashfords school meals campaign.
The lad is obviously struggling for form for whatever reason but he's certainly not alone in that.

its more than form I think with Rashers atm.

When I was at the game vs Villa.... (God I hope Sinjury isnt logged on as he is going to have kittens with a United supporter starting a post with that line) I was sat in the bottom tier of the Fergie. Rashford was playing quite wide left like an authodox outside left so he was never more than say 10 to 15 yards away at times like when he was waiting for a throw in... you could see his body language, facial expression, lack of urgency/movement, no verbal communication, the whole lot really.... that he was somewhere he really didnt want to be that night. That's not just form.

Funny enough I was listening to Steve McClaren on the radio the next day and he had a go at Rashford claiming that "He gets deterred too easily and doesn't fight through bad moments. He doesn't stay in the game.“If he's not having a good first-half, he'll never have a good second-half. “Somebody needs to give him the tools to come out of the bad times, because he doesn't know how to and stays in it.”

A bit harsh but I get what he meant after seeing Rashy close up the night before. His second half was pitiful.

I think that point he was trying to make is that no-one looks outside of football reasons when criticising those players - not that there aren't articles.

Rashford is the only one who has the school meals campaign trotted out as a reason for a drop in his form. No-one points at Mata's charity work for a reason as to why he can't get a game.

An interesting point from McLaren. I do think that Rashford would benefit from some good coaching and a manager that puts his arm around him and gives him confidence, which Ole did to an extent. I think that Ole would have been able to give him good advice on how to get the dirty/poachers goals, but his game was very different to how Rashford plays.

was going to add this Elvis.

Rash was (too) comfortable under Ole. One of his 'faves' and almost dictated to him what was to happen. eg going to the Euros BEFORE his operation (WT very F?).

Ralf has been a shock to the system to some players with his under me you will have to work harder and play proactively on the front foot and press with your mates no matter who you think you are. It will at least sort out the chaff from the wheat in time.
