So where do Spurs go from here?

There is a such a massive gap between where Spurs are right now, and where the financial doped clubs are that it is difficult to see Spurs ever likely to be playing CL football or winning trophies for a very long time. The gap is massive, and Spurs in reality, like most of the Prem have very little chance, if any, of ever bridging the gap.

The tie was effictively over after the 1st leg, but when you have players like Davies and Winks all of a sudden becoming first picks again, you know the game is up. I am astonished that quite a few fans have been bigging Winks up last week or so, he is so bog standard average. He is not alone of course, their are plenty more that are on the same level, and yet are forming the basis of the current Spurs 1st XI.

I was astonished yesterday with the line up Conte picked yesterday, it was absolute dross. Already missing his two best CBs (on form only) Not that I particularly rate either, Dier or Romero, but nonetheless certainly probably better than what is currently on offer, he then leaves out his best goalie, Lloris, his best performing midfielder of the season, Skipp, and where was Regulion? Basic errors from a so called seasoned manager. At least give it a go with the strongest possible available team. Was it any surprise Spurs lost again with a backline of Emerson, Tanganga, Sanchez and Davies. How bloody average is that back four.

I think this season is now a write off, absolutely no way will this set of championship players get top four. Next three games against Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester will almost certainly put paid to that.

I feel sorry for Conte, I don`t think he realised what a poor squad he was inheriting. At least six or seven of even the current 1st XI need replacing, let alone a wholesale upgrade of the squad. It will cost an absolute fortune, and money Spurs probably don`t have. I reckon he may even walk before his 18 months is up, that poor is the squad. So many Championship players all over the pitch, plying their trade at a Prem club.

This is without a doubt the worse squad Spurs have had since the mid 1970s, similar scenario, lots of the old guard left, then it was Peters, Chivers, Knowles, England etc. Now it is Verts, Toby, Dembele, Eriksen etc. It was a painful transition back then, and it will be again. It took six years to rebuild fully, and I expect at least the same again, probably longer, because back then it was a lot more level playing field, no massive gap between the financially doped and the rest.

Not a great time to be supporting the club, and even I am considering not going much again this season. I have tickets for Southampton, Wolves and Everton, which I will go to, but thereafter, I cannot keep paying to watch the same players being picked to serve up the same old dross.

I will always support the club, but my presence at the stadium will become less and less unless something seriously happens about actually addressing the quality of the squad. And if they start losing supporters like me at the turnstile, then they will be in serious trouble.

Worst side since the mid 70’s?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Definitely the worse squad mate. I have seen every Spurs team for 63 years, and this is right up there with the worse.

Take away the two Chelsea games and the last three matches.

Southampton, struggled to get a 0-0 draw against 10 men for 50 minutes.

Watford beat with a goal in the 91st minute.

Morecamble, looking down the barrel of the most humiliating home cup defeat in Spurs history, and only saved by a couple of goals in the last five minutes.

I could go on, defeats to Mura and another pub team in the Conference League this season. Last season humiliating exit in the Europa after leading 2-0 from 1st leg.

The list of failures of the bunch of losers is seriously mounting up.

Yep , I agree with what most Sandy has put to be fair but this was a weird one

Squads of the 90’s easily worse, we just had a sprinkle of star quality now and then but as a squad we had some serious dross and were nearly relegated !
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Spurs did win a trophy and reach another final in the late 90s, and did occasionally rise above the ordinary. This team just serves up dross game after game, with no hope of ever winning a trophy, and not even beating any remotely decent side other than Man City now.

You're 6th in the Premier League and playing for a Euro place. What more do you actually want? Spurs fans are the whiniest in the world, I swear.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We want the players to play for the shirt.
Fans will forgive or accept a loss as long as the players look like they cared and put themselves on the line.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This …..

Said it to my uninterested girlfriend last night during many rants
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hadn’t quite finished……..

It was a semi final against a London rival

Not one challenge on someone to let them know you are there….nothing

Was embarrassing to watch

To not play Hugo, skipp and reguillion was unforgivable though
----------------------------------------------------------------------
On reflection maybe he was right. I don’t think those players would’ve made much difference when you look at how trash the back 3 are, and how ineffective Kane and Gio were. I can see the logic of resting a few for the Arsenal game if you accept the tie was gone after the first game. How that translates to Kane playing 97 mins is beyond me though. He should’ve been hooked on 70, looked really leggy by the end.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

My only counter argument to that is whenever we rest players to prioritise for another game we lose both matches

Everytime!

Take your point about the defence though ….it really is a collectively awful bunch of players

We need a commanding centre back and we need them now

a shambles of a display and a loss at the weekend and its looking ugly again after a bright opening 8 games which was a solid ground to build on.

Injuries to key players havent helped tbh but other sides deal with it a lot better than us, so yeah the squad isnt great of course but no way is it as bad as the 90s and some of the crap put out in the 00s.

I’m not sure on what planet anybody thought a defence consisting of Davies, Sanchez, Tanganga and Doherty would achieve anything. That’s got to be the worst back line on the planet. It’s a miracle that Conte has kept clean sheets with this lot

yep, aside from Davies none of them should be anywhere near the side but with 2 injuries to our best CBs we dont have a choice due to the squad

For everything you mentioned there, there were far worse things in previous squads. You’re saying stuff for a reaction mate

Davies should not be anywhere near the side either. How come he is suddenly flavour of the month, when at best he is just a back up squad player.

I seriously cannot remember a poor squad for the amount of money Spurs have spent. There is some serious dross in the squad now, and not just one or two players, about a dozen and more. And most of them are not like £5 million buys.
