3 drivers per team

The 3 driver per team idea has done the rounds before and the pro's and con's of it are always debated. But given how things are currently, wouldn't the switch to 3 drivers per team just be better than what we currently have in regards to competition in the right places. Formats could be as so;

10 teams - 30 cars is an increase of 9 which wouldn't work at all on the smaller circuits that already have issues with 20 cars. At least no teams would be cut

8 Teams - 24 cars is much more viable, and only 2 teams cut, presumably Haas and Alfa.

7 Teams - 21 cars is just 1 car more than now so zero disruption to races in regards to traffic and backmarkers. Cutting 3 teams would be problematic but atleast the 7 teams left would be much closer in regards to competitiveness.

Looking at the major benefits of 3 drivers per team

* More competition for winners - The only thing able to stop a Merc winning are the 2 Red Bulls .......... and the other Merc. Having 3 of those cars at least gives us 6 drivers that should theoretically be able to win races in the fastest cars. 6 is better than 4. It also gives other drivers the chance to drive faster cars and have better chances of actually winning races more often, not only relying on lead car incidents. It also opens the opportunity for teams to get all 3 podium places which is quite a cool thought and would be a superb achievement.

* More competitive constructor - As is every season, there always a dreadful backmarker team which isn't necessarily awful if they could at least grab the odd points every other race or so, but what is the point having Manor, Minnardi, Haas etc picking up 0 points over a season when we could just have less teams with better cars that can actually win. 7 Teams with 3 drivers would make for just 1 more physical car on the grid (21) which won't add traffic/congestion, but does mean that we have more competitive cars on the track, with the 7th placed team still able to score points often enough. This season would have seen Aston Martin finish last, a team who still grabbed two 2nd places and scored not far off 100 points.

This is mostly for fun, its not going to change any time soon, but could it be done and should it be done do you guys think?

3 team line ups could look like this (Top end of grid)

Red Bull
* Verstappen
* Perez
* Gasly

Merc
* Hamilton
* Russell
* Norris

Ferarri
* Leclerc
* Sainz
* Mick Schumacher

There's always the possibility of some cars being excluded through qualifying. 9 teams, 27 cars, 24 make the race. Every team has at least 1 car in.

They'll never cut 3 teams. It's all about the Benjamins.

I think realistically we'd just end up with one main driver and two wingmen.

Imagine last season if Mercedes had a third car to use to take Verstappen out!
