Or as it should be known, the right to be killed.
A cheery topic after the last debacle on the pitch.
A little story.
In England I had a ginger tom cat for over seventeen years.
He had his own cat door and his own little kingdon. He had the endearing habit of leaving a mouses head in a slipper or shoe as a gift.
Or the rather more endearing habit of jumping on the bed and patting my face until I woke up and demanding his breakfast
When he got old more health problems occured.
One morning he patted my face and told me he had had enough, he got off the bed and lay down in his favourite place in fron of the radiator.
I understood and called the vet, she and the nurse arrived at about 8.30am. She checked him out and said yes, it was time.
I stroked him and she injected him, he gave a yawn and died.
In one way thought it wonderful, he had a great life and a great death. And I thought how nice if we could all have that.
From a recent poll I understand the majority agree now.
Like a lot of people I am not afraid of being dead, I believe it will be the same as before I was born. But I would prefer not to suffer.
But there are things against,
Certainly Christianity and Judaism are against it, and I would imagine the other religions too.
I cannot imagine many doctors being happy to kill someone.
Where would it take place.
How to legislate against the person who has a typed letter with his fathers signature saying he wanted to die, when he now had dementia, and the son wanted the house earlier.
There are many othe scenarios.
So over to you, not a list please of people who would like to go first!
It's a an ethical and practical problem. But as I have said befor, we have plenty of intelligent people on here.
The right to die

A few years ago both my parents went into two separate old folks homes. My mom had dementia and my dad who had broken his back in a fall could only get around in a wheelchair and had the beginnings of dementia. I went to each of their residences every day for three and four years after work.
At the end they barley knew me and knowing my folks they wouldn't have wanted to end their life like that.
When they died it was more a relief than sadness. To this day I can't help but remember their last days more than the great times we had.
On the other hand my old cat of 22 years was put down with no suffering and I only have good memories of her life.
So I would be all for euthanasia.

It's something that makes a lot of sense and bar possibly religious nut jobs a very high percentage of people would be in favour of it under certain circumstances.
However implementation is the issue, so while the principal is very sound the rules and regulations behind it need to be water tight and that's the real stumbling block
