Notts Forest 2 - 1 Derby County - FTEFL

NOTTS FOREST v DERBY COUNTY...............………........................Championship # 27

12.30pm The 5hitty Ground Saturday 22nd January 2022

FECK the EFL

Weird to think that the normally anticipated local derby has not really been discussed. Well it may have on the Dark Side of the 52 but then it's their cup final and it keeps them occupied.

On the sage suggestion of Heb , it seems that we have multiple threads (quite rightly) discussing THAT administration problem. It just won't go away. As I type, 56,000 people have signed the petition, it has been discussed in parliament, all our local MPs have laudably been giving their support - even Dogs have been signing the petition with their customary X.

Latest news is that it will be nigh impossible to come out of administration with the twin threats of Wycombe and Middlesbrough hanging over us. Its an amazing Kafkaesque situation and we will be able to tell our grand children that "yes, I was there....."

It's all been said about ti t for tat suing but what I cannot understand is why Tony Pulis was sacked in 2019 for finishing 7th when it was 'Derby's fault' (I accept no liability for this admission)? Or when QPR beat us in '14, can't we sue them (I don't want to)? this all leads to etc etc which puzzles....nay, infuriates me that the EFL cannot see this.....ffs AND if we did go down this route, we would be the richest team in the EFL????

Some fantastic threads and comments here on the J606DCFC board about the shenanigans - many erudite, many thoughtful and many from the heart.

Maybe just bring them together - on a Match Thread where the match is secondary - as someone on here said (Jorvik???) - 'not bothered if Notts tonk us 5-0 - as long as we survive'.

Gutted to have lost our very own Begbie - Shinnie

Oh, if anyone has a spare ticket....???

Wonder whether Rooney considered keeping on CKR to play with Plange rather than bringing on Morrison. Easy to be wise affter the event I suppose and Morrison was key in the win at Stoke. I'm not his biggest fan though, I don't think he produces much.

I think Shinnie would have made a big difference today. We lacked a bit of old-fashioned savviness in midfield.

Totally agree. Also, where is Stretton - injured again?!!

What a strange question. It's on the A61 between Alfreton and Clay Cross.

Well, it's been a hard week!

As NSR will tell you it is dangerous to pull up so suddenly. We need a gentle warm down

I'm sure you're riught, Heb. Good to see there isn't any knee-jerk scapegoating of individuals that often comes with a defeat. Virtually all of us understand that to have done as well as we have on the pitch this season has been more than a small miracle so we are prepared to forgive the occasional lapse. We will have to dust ourselves down and go again. We were some way short of our best today but no need to over-analyse or apportion blame. The players and management are well in credit. I just hope next week sees some progress behind the scenes.

Morning after view:

Morning all, not the result we wanted but lets face it we aren't going to win every game. Fine margins. First 25 minutes there was only one team in it and had Lawrence scored then it could have been a different game.
IMO where we lost it was midfield. Not saying we played badly there....but we were just outplayed there. I also think Notts Forest worked really hard at closing down our space and credit them that. That said, they didn'y really create that much but scored with what chances they created. Fine margins, we create 3 good chances and only score with one of them. Goals change games - as we saw v Sheff U last week.....so as the saying goes "We go again".....

1. Goalie - Allsop. Did nothing wrong and made a couple of good saves and punches clear.

2. Defence - Byrne, Stears, Davis & Buchanan. Probably Davis was the pick. Buchanan maybe a bit ring rusty after his layoff. Wing backs generally not as effective as they have been in recent weeks.

3. Midfield - Bird, Tommo & Knight. Where we lost it IMO. None did anything wrong especially but seemed to be overwhelmed by Notts Forest.

4. Forwards - Festy, CKR & Loz. Festy was isolated and closed down so generally unable to get into it. Apart from the opportunity we created in the 1st half - where we shoulda scored Loz and CKR for me didnt really click and I think it was an error to change the starting line up from what it has been. That said Loz looked most likely to score and took the penalty well.

5. Subs - Sibley, Morrison & Plange. Saw the worst of Sibley who lost his head. Has had a poor season so far and needs to find himself again. Morrison was awful with so many misplaced passes. Dont like him dropping too deep when he goes looking for the ball and like Sibley completely lost it. Plange for me should have started the game but its done now.

So all in all we did ok. We shouldn't be too down hearted as it could have been a different result....but as I said earlier we simply aren't going to win every game. So we dust ourselves down and go again. Keep the faith....UTR

I havent watched the full game yet, just the brief highlights. I am saving that dubious pleasure for a later occasion (maybe).
I was concerned to read in Terry's review, about Louie Sibleys antics when he arrived on the pitch.
I must admit that I hadnt heard his name in any capacity during the commentary, which was dismal enough. To read of his continuing loss of discipline, even if it was in a pressurized situation, is disappointing and concerning for his future at the club. What a great shame that, despite his obvious talent, he cant seem to get that aspect right.
Perhaps Millwall would be a good home for him ?

I mentioned yesterday that Festy (whilst devastatingly quick) sometimes seems to have a poor touch. Have re-examined and does he remind anyone else of Wanchope? Appears to have lost the ball and then collects and zooms on?

Good summary again Terry. No-one played badly but midfield is where the game was won and lost.
