Ben Shiiiite

The guy is an absoute fraud. Complete waste of £50. He's so slow , always backs away from the attacker , poor positioning , not great in the air. Barely an updrade on Holding or Chambers . Gets shown up every time he plays against top opposition.
His level really is Brighton or Championship. No one else was in for him so why did we spash out so much money?. He's worth £10m max.

One of the understated issues with this club is not that we have needed investment, but that we have spent an ASTONISHING among of money on absolute dross or mid-table level players. Over the years, we've spent enough money to be competing well right now with a club like Liverpool. They've spent well and we haven't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In terms of net spend I'd bet a good amount you've spent a shed load more than Liverpool...
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Net spend has nothing to do with squad value. If Brentford spends £20m on inbound transfers and sells £19m worth of players, and Chelsea spends £150m and sells £160m, it doesn't mean Chelsea are somehow overperforming Brentford due to their negative net spend. It's just a feel-good stat that has nothing to do with expectations. Yes, Liverpool have a lower net-spend than Arsenal in recent years cos you've sold some players for ridiculous amounts while Arsenal may be the worst club in the PL for getting value from sales, but you've invested more money in the squad. My point was that you spent that money a lot better than we did.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
But we only spent 30 mil mote than you over past 5 seasons. Yet we are light years better than you.

It genuinely warms my heart when I come across people that know what bullshiiiiit net spend is. Thank you.

Not a fan myself either. No one is going to convince me getting £70m for Benteke, Solanke and Sakho hindered us.

It's not that big a statement really is it. Sancho is a bang average player. Never understood the fuss at all really. Said so at the time multiple times and pretty smug now tbh.

Robbing

It is if you’ve seen either play. Unless you think a poor start to his United career defines his quality.

Exactly. That's the compliment I was paying to Liverpool before irrelevant stuff about "net spend". That Liverpool have invested far better than we have.

Net spend is important when arguing about money spent. It's all part of an overall comparison, not the be all and end all but also far from insignificant.

If over 10 years United spend 1b while recouping 100m and Liverpool spend 1b yet recoup 950m it's completely relevant to any discussion regarding two clubs that spent 1b.

As are wage bills and whether a sugar daddy owner is simply funding success rather than clubs putting in the hard yards to self sustain. It is all relevant.

--------

But clearly not relevant to discussions over how well the 1bn was spent.

It would probably be the second biggest factor after on field success for a club that needs to balance the books
